Mead Montessori School

AMI Montessori education, serving children ages 15 months to 15 years. MMS is lucky to call this beautiful building home.

Mead Montessori School is located 2 miles from downtown Knoxville and less than 1/2 mile from Ijams Nature Center. Built as a WPA project in 1936, the historic Mead School was once a public school to the children of the Island Home neighborhood as well as the children of the quarry workers in nearby Mead's quarry. Bringing new life to a beautiful building, rich in history in detail. The teachers at MMS are dedicated to helping each child fulfill their fullest potential while cultivating a life long love of learning.

Flashback Friday to January for our annual capstone 8th grade trip to the Children’s Eternal Rainforest in Costa Rica. An immersive experience where the students go deep into the Costa Rican rainforest to study the connection between biodiversity and peace through a Montessori lens. This special group of 8th grade girls knocked it out of the park, even in the unseasonably rainy weather.

Birdwatching at dawn, many species of flora and fauna recorded, new friends from other countries made. Amazing new experiences… scroll to the end to see the progression of fresh termite snacking right from the tree bark- the mark of true friendship!

Earth Day every day! We love the Earth and do what we can to keep her safe each and every day. As the children remind us, there is no planet B. Earth Day art parade in honor of Earth Day. 🌎💝☀️

Congratulations to our incredibly talented group of middle schoolers on their recent production of The Little Mermaid! Creativity and talent were on full display! 🧜‍♀️💫🌊

Thank you to staff members and parent volunteers for all of your generous support. And a special thank you to our elementary students who were excellent mermaids, sailors and sea creatures! 🐙🐢🦀

It was truly a community effort and a smashing success! 🌟

We are already looking forward to our next school production. 🤩 Cheers!
