Founded in 1968 and located on more than 50 acres, Tate's School is a private educational institution serving Pre-K through 8th Grade students in Knoxville, Tennessee. Our PK3 students recently had an egg-citing week of hands-on science as they explored the letter E!

As part of a week-long experiment, students took turns pouring vinegar over eggs and observing the changes that happened over time. They noticed bubbles forming around the shells, watched the eggs become softer, and discovered that they even grew larger. By Friday, our young scientists had created “bouncy eggs!”

It was a fun way to connect science, observation, and letter learning as we focused on E for egg and E for experiment. 🥚

Our PK4 students used their senses to create the most delicious treat: homemade lemonade! Students explored the activity by observing, smelling, tasting, and helping mix the ingredients together. It was a sweet hands-on lesson filled with curiosity, teamwork, and plenty of smiles! 🍋

First graders are becoming sentence experts with a fun activity called “I Mustache You a Question!” ✏️🥸 Students learned how to tell the difference between a question and a statement, brainstormed question words and explored when to use a question mark. Then they put their learning into action by writing two questions of their own to ask Mrs. Kringen! ❓

Our Music Department recently received a wonderful donation of 12 new Tubano drums, and our 5th grade classes were the first to try them out in music class today!

Students had so much fun exploring the new instruments as they created rhythms, followed rhythms, and used music as a way to express their creativity. A special thank you to our anonymous donor for this generous gift to our students and our music program! 🥁

Our PK 4 students brought storytime and science together after reading *My Mouth Is a Volcano!* by Julia Cook. After talking about the story, students had fun creating their own “volcano in a cup” experiment and watching the excitement bubble over! 🌋

Kindergarten recently celebrated their first Forest Day of the year with plenty of exploring, imagination and outdoor fun! 🌿 Students learned the “big kid” forest rules, spent time adventuring with friends and began making the forest feel like one of their favorite classrooms. 🍃

Our second graders took learning on the road at the City of Knoxville’s Safety City! 🚦 Students explored a child-sized miniature town while learning important lessons about pedestrian, bicycle and fire safety through hands-on activities and real-world practice. 🚲🔥

Our third graders are “Mapping Our Way Around the World!” 🌎 To kick off their first Unit of Study, students explored maps, globes, compasses, books and other geographical tools while making observations and asking thoughtful questions. It was a hands-on introduction to the continents, oceans and features that help us better understand our world! 🗺️
