Four Graduate Engineering Students Receive GATE Fellowships - Tickle College of Engineering Four engineering students have received Graduate Advancement, Training, and Education (GATE) Fellowships for the 2026-27 academic year.

University of Tennessee, Knoxville graduate and Randy “Komrade” Bresnik has been named the commander of NASA’s Artemis III mission, the next phase in the space agency’s plan to return humans to the moon.

Bresnik graduated from the Tickle College of Engineering in 2002 with a master’s degree in aviation systems from the University of Tennessee Space Institute. He has logged more than 7,000 hours in 95 types of aircraft. Since 2018, Bresnik has served as assistant to the chief of the Astronaut Office for exploration. Full story below! UT Knoxville Alumni

Dove Honored with AIAA Ground Testing Best Paper Award - Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Drew Dove, an MAE graduate student, was the lead author for a paper that received the 2025 Ground Testing Best Paper Award from the AIAA.

Associate Professor Candace Brakewood and her team have received an Arnold Ventures grant to support a research project examining New York City’s congestion pricing program, an approach intended to reduce traffic while generating revenue for the region’s transportation system.
