It's almost time for the 86th annual Tennessee Municipal League conference in Kingsport, which means it's also almost time for...[🥁 drumroll 🥁]...MTAS's Elected Officials Academy, live and in-person!

EOA includes two programs: Municipal Foundations and Municipal Operations. You are welcome to register for either; it's not required to attend both, or to attend Municipal Foundations before Municipal Operations.

Both programs will be held next month at the MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center, alongside all the other TML happenings. They're each worth up to 7.5 hours of Utility Board credit, and we'll provide lunch and beverages.

*Please note: Registration for EOA is separate from the main TML conference, which is available through https://www.tml1.org/86th-annual-tml-conference-expo. Secure your spot at EOA and view full schedule/pricing details below:

MTAS offices are closed today for Juneteenth. On this day in 1865, Union troops freed enslaved African Americans in Galveston Bay and across Texas, some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

In the words of Opal Lee, the retired teacher, counselor, and activist who helped the day become a national holiday: "Juneteenth means freedom for so many people, for so many reasons. I try to get people to understand it’s not a Texas thing, is not a black thing—it’s freedom for everybody" (source: https://ow.ly/KA1950Z6ggp).
