It’s your favorite time of the year! As November 3 marks the date of homecoming, the Black Cultural Programming Committee invites you to our free tailgate kick off at noon. Later that day, we will hold our 13th Annual Southeastern Stomp Fest at 7 pm in the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. Come out to see our National Pan-Hellenic Council Greeks on campus compete for a $5,000 prize. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10.

Looking for a chill night in? Come enjoy a movie night with your Black Cultural Programming Committee on Thursday, November 1 in the amphitheater (just right outside of Humanities & Social Science.) We will be showing the film The Help, which displays the hardships and social constraints placed on an Aspiring African-American writer during the civil rights movement. See you at 9 pm! Remember to bring your student ID.

On Monday, October 22, Bakari Sellers will be speaking in the University Center Auditorium at 7 pm. Sellers is the youngest member of the South Carolina General Assembly. Representing the 90th District since 2006, Sellers is a Democratic member of the South Carolina General Assembly. He was elected in 2006 at the age of 22. You will not want to miss this inspiring message from such a young political leader! Student ID is required for UT students.
If you are over the age of 18, don’t forget to exercise your right to vote in the next presidential election. If you are registered to vote in another district, be sure to request an absentee ballot so that you will able to vote in Knox County. The final day to register is October 8th. You have an opinion. Let your voice be heard!
After compiling the survey results from Susan L. Taylor on last Monday, our results displayed that all audience members were extremely satisfied with Taylor’s overall message as well as the event as a whole. Aside from speaking on the interworks of journalism and her rise to Editor-in-Chief of Essence Magazine, Mrs. Taylor gave motivating advice on how to get through daily life. One piece of advice she shared was adding short, 30-minute meditations to your daily routine to decrease stress. We encourage you to try it out today!

Have you ever wanted to know the successful steps to obtain your dream occupation or passion? Now, you can! Join the Black Cultural Programming Committee on October 1 at 7 pm in the University Center as we present Susan L. Taylor, the former Editor-in-Chief of Essence Magazine. Sharing her secret to success, Taylor will enlighten her audience of the behind the scenes work of individuals who work in the journalism field. Students, please bring your student ID.

Good morning! The Black Cultural Programming Committee wanted to start your day off with a moment in history. 62 years ago today, Ralph Bunche was the first African-American to receive the Noble Peace Prize. He received this award for his mediation efforts in Palestine. Keeping this in mind, have a productive day and remember you can achieve anything you put your mind to.
For the third year in a row, Flow Theater returns to UT with another great performance! To refresh your memory, last year their piece was entitled “Our Young Black Men Are Dying and No One Seems To Care.” This year, Flow Theater will present “Sex, Love, and Other Stuff” in the UC Auditorium on Monday, September 17 at 7 pm. Don’t forget your student ID.
