TW: POST SURGERY WOUNDS

Here is an update on LSP.

She had surgery today to remove her lumps, and she did so well. She recovered swiftly from the anesthesia and will be able to take a small meal within the next few days. She is on antibiotics and pain meds until she is all healed up. The healing process will take a couple of months, but she is expected to make a full recovery.

Since snakes metabolize differently than humans, anesthesia can be harder on their bodies and usually take longer to recover. Thankfully, LSP handled the anesthesia really well and was awake within an hour after her surgery.

Both Jacob and I are very grateful for the staff at Lange Animal Hospital. They always take great care of LSP when she is in. Thank you so much Dr. Richie and his supporting vet techs for taking such great care of LSP.

Just wanted to update everyone on Lumpy Space Princess (LSP).

For those that are new, LSP, is one of our eastern black rat snakes we care for. LSP was born with unspecified lumps throughout her body. Within the last 4 months she has developed a lump in her mouth (pathology results showed no signs of cancer, but were inconclusive otherwise). After one round of antibiotics and tube feeding, there is unfortunately not a lot of change. Our plan now is to do another round of antibiotics and get her eating pinkies/fuzzies to gain some weight. If we do not see improvement for the better in 4-6 weeks, surgery will be done to ensure LSP can live a long and healthy life. LSP is only 3 years old and has a long life ahead of her. Surgery does has its risks, but if it ensures a good life for LSP, we will do it. A lot of people donโ€™t understand the bonds we form with our reptiles, but LSP has a special bond with us and we are willing to fight for her.

Surgery on snakes is very high risk as some snakes do not recover from anesthesia. Surgery is a last ditch effort to give her the best possible chance at a good life. Please keep us in your thoughts as we navigate this time.
