Adult Treble Class meets at 4:15 today at 1400 N 6th Ave. This pay-what-you-like class is for sopranos, mezzos, contraltos, and everyone in-between. Come join us! "You’ve got to 'ya-ya' into your Pizza Hut!"

Everyone in the treble class lost it. We were cracking up. Two of us were crying, we were laughing so hard. And in the midst of that laughter, singers found freedom, joy, emotional support, togetherness, and playfulness.

I generally identify myself as a very technical teacher -- I care about clarity, precision, all the moving parts -- but sometimes, instead of clinical language, what sticks is something like Pizza Hut... And suddenly, everyone gets it. We vocalized one singer higher than she had ever gone in the group class. In that moment, she found the high note and it was *gorgeous*.

So yes, we worked on technique. We got a little better at the exercise we were doing. But it was so much more than that: it was singers laughing together, being a little silly, being supportive, and having fun -- and that sense of support, that sense of community, is so important for us as vocalists.

Learning to sing can sometimes be a lonely process -- just you and your voice, over and over again in the practice space -- which is why I encourage ALL singers to come out to our monthly studio gathering, for our adult trebles to attend the treble class, and to participate in the recital at the end of the term. We have a wonderful, caring group of students in the studio who show so much thoughtful support and encouragement for their fellow singers. We share feedback, we give support, and yes -- we laugh, a lot.

Sometimes progress sounds like a perfect performance.

And sometimes it sounds like a room full of singers, together, crying with laughter over Pizza Hut.

post-script: Quick rundown on upcoming group activities:
- The adult treble class meets on Sundays at 4:15 at 1400 N 6th Ave.
- Our next studio gathering is tentatively scheduled for the 26th of this month (pending approval).
- Our recital rehearsal is May 10th at 3pm and the recital May 17th at 3pm at St Luke’s Episcopal.

The adult treble class is meeting again this Sunday at 4:15! This pay-what-you-like class is a great way to get started in the studio, to meet other singers for support, and to get answers to YOUR vocal questions! Please comment, message, or email me if you plan to attend!

This class is for adult singers 18+ and is geared toward sopranos, mezzos, contraltos, choir altos, second sopranos, countertenors, sopranistas, and so on…!

We’ll discuss a technical concept and share exercises to help you feel and experience real progress in your singing. Ask questions, get real-time feedback, and get support from your fellow singers. We always have a great time!

This is a pay-what-you-like class, with a suggested contribution of $15.

10% of the contributions for tomorrow’s class will go to support ChainFree Knoxville! ChainFree Knoxville (CFK) was founded in the summer of 2021. CFK is very active in the community with around 3-6 dogs freed from a life on the chain monthly and dozens of committed and hard-working volunteers. Your donations go directly towards helping free more dogs from a life on the chain!
