Come explore the plants and animals that call the canal home with us!

🍎 Last week was APPLE WEEK at Wild Sprouts! 🍏

Thanks to a generous apple donation from MOM’s Organic Market in Frederick (MOM's Organic Market), our classrooms spent the week learning, tasting, experimenting, creating, and, of course, eating plenty of apples!

Our littlest Sprouts explored apples through their senses, taste-tested different varieties, made homemade applesauce, and even used yoga to grow from tiny seeds into big apple trees. 🌱🌳

Our Hawks took apple week even further with science and art! They learned about oxidation by testing what happens when apple slices are placed in milk, water, vinegar, and lemon juice, explored whether different parts of an apple sink or float, and studied Paul Cézanne before painting their own apple still lifes using apples and flowers from the farm. 🎨🔬

One simple fruit turned into a whole week of hands-on learning across art, science, nature, movement, and food. 💚

A huge thank you to MOM’s Organic Market in Frederick for helping make Apple Week extra special! 🍎🍏

🌿 Fall classes are here!

Wild Sprouts is excited to offer three programs in partnership with the City of Frederick Parks & Recreation this fall, with opportunities for kids from toddlerhood through the middle school years to learn, play, and explore outdoors.

🍂 Fall Tinkergarten | Ages 18 months–8
Tuesdays, 2–3 PM
Outdoor, play-based learning designed to build focus, curiosity, confidence, and a love of nature through hands-on exploration. Grown-ups are encouraged to join in, too!

📚 Environmental Book Club | Ages 9–15
Mondays, 3–4:30 PM
Designed for homeschool families, this book club will read Flush by Carl Hiaasen and explore themes like water pollution, environmental activism, local waterways, ecosystems, and standing up for what’s right.

🔎 Nature Study After School | Ages 6–11
Wednesdays, 4–5 PM
A year-round nature study program featuring a new topic each week, from fungi and trees to nocturnal animals, pond life, pollinators, and more. Kids will learn through hands-on observation, nature journaling, and plenty of outdoor discovery.
