A very thoughtful view point:
We can easily misjudge the "base rate" of some types of events. For instance, we may wonder: are the hit rates of horoscopes, psychic readings, and meaningful coincidences beyond what we'd expect from chance alone? To know whether they are significant, we have to know what rate of “hits” to expect by chance, which is very hard to judge.
How often should someone who is paying close attention to you correctly predict something unusual about you if they don't have psychic ability? How often would meaningful-seeming coincidences happen if they were only the result of random chance? These are the questions we need to ask to evaluate if such a result is beyond coincidence.
