Our shared vision in Klein ISD is that every student enters with a promise and exits with a purpose. And it’s exciting that we are seeing results for our students and community from our collective efforts. For example, in the last two years, we added eight more student pathways, including an opportunity for high school students to earn their Associate’s Degree and industry-level certifications while simultaneously earning their high school diploma in areas like nursing. Other success stories include Klein Forest High School being named a State School of Character and more than 120 student winners in the recent Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. We had 86 student-athletes commit on National Signing Day and more than 400 young leaders present nearly 800 projects at this year’s FFA Livestock Show and Project Show. These are just a few examples of how our students are passionately preparing for future success.

Klein ISD has and continues to be a growing district adding more than 10,000 students over the last ten years and projecting more than 7,400 students over the next ten years.

In order to continue making our vision a reality for EVERY student, we need appropriate resources, of course. Over the next several weeks I will be sharing a series of videos highlighting some challenges we’re experiencing and actions we are taking. We believe it’s important that every member of the Klein community is on the same page about how our schools are funded by the state and local taxpayers.

State funding is something that is becoming more challenging each year. There are a number of reasons why this is true, but in large part, it's due to the state’s contribution to public education shrinking. Across the state of Texas, 6 years ago the state contributed 46% of the funding for public schools. This past year it was 40%. This trend is true in Klein ISD, as well. Last year, for the first time, our local taxpayers actually contributed a larger percentage of the per-pupil allocation than the state of Texas.

Klein ISD continues to work diligently within this system to maintain the quality educational environment and services that make this district outstanding.

We'll see you next time for the next round of school finance talk.

Hello, sunshine! Road conditions are improving, so Klein ISD will be open Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018.

The current calendar allows for enough minutes to cover school cancellation on January 16. We are currently studying options for January 17. Stay tuned for updates in the coming days.

Klein ISD will remain closed Wednesday, January 17, 2018, due to the dangerous road conditions forecasted to continue overnight and into tomorrow.

All after school activities are also cancelled.

Stay safe!

UPDATE: Harris County officials have advised school districts that potentially dangerous icy conditions are expected for our area beginning Tuesday, mid-morning and possibly continuing overnight. Klein ISD and other area school districts have determined that school will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, for the safety of our students and staff.

All after school activities including the Board meeting are canceled.

REMINDER: Klein ISD will be closed on Monday, January 15, 2018!
