On the 23rd of November, Junior dental hygiene student, Carson Weaver, was presented with the Dennis Muir Award of Excellence. Sue Sanzi-Schaedel, Chair of the Oregon Dental Hygienist’s Association Dennis Muir Scholarship Committee presented the award in person. She was nominated by DH faculty last spring and received a monetary award this summer.

AMR hosts clinical safety competition at Oregon Institute of Technology
American Medical Response (AMR) hosted a dynamic Clinical Safety Competition on Saturday at the Oregon Institute of Technology's Portland Metro Campus.

In BIO 216 class students performed physical exams on the horses, and learned basic techniques when working with horses, husbandry, and they also had a chance to walk a horse in the arena or ride the horse! So many fun opportunities at Oregon Tech!

STEM students from OIT bring science to life at local elementary school: Kyra Morris, a Renewable Energy Engineering major, and Isaias Peña, a graduate student in the Biomedical Masters program, partnered to host a STEM Night at Roosevelt Elementary School. The event featured hands-on science activities aimed at sparking curiosity and building connections between college students and young learners in the community. Driven by a shared passion for inspiring a love of STEM in youth, the organizers aimed to make science engaging, approachable, and fun.

We had an incredible visit from Brixner Junior High’s functional skills class this past week where we did some Lego activities and then they were treated to some science demonstrations with Professor Travis Owen.

Last week Junior Dental Hygiene students did a dental materials lab session. They were taking impressions on each other and making impression models.

The communication faculty and students attended the 49th Annual Northwest Communication Association (NWCA) this past week. Some notable accomplishments include:
Student Research Presentations: Kiana (KJ) Jacobson and Addison Brown (left to right) presented their research projects.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Kevin Brown reflected on his 40 years of attending NWCA and provided insight and inspiration that communication scholars should provide expertise and guidance to their local community.
Program Planner Success: Dr. Matt Schnackenberg completed his year as Vice President of the association and conducted program planning for the annual conference.
Faculty Top Paper: Drs. Richards, Brown (left to right), and Koehn (not pictured; former Oregon Tech faculty) received the conference Top Faculty Paper award.
Sharing Pedagogy & Embracing OER: Andie Fultz and Markie Scheidegger and Drs. McCracken, Richards, Grimshaw, and Schnackenberg presented innovative teaching activities, the value of Open Education Resources (OER), and various research projects.
