Great Work KCFD1!

This week KCFD1 firefighters are completing a Window-Oriented Search training, a firefighter rescue and victim search technique designed to improve search efficiency and firefighter safety during structure fires.

Window-Oriented Search allows firefighters to quickly search areas adjacent to windows while maintaining a direct reference point to the exterior. This method can increase search effectiveness, improve crew accountability, and provide a rapid means of victim removal when conditions inside a structure are deteriorating.

During the training, crews practice victim location techniques, firefighter positioning, communication, and victim removal through window openings. Scenarios are designed to simulate realistic fire ground conditions with reduced visibility, allowing firefighters to apply the technique in an environment that closely resembles conditions they may encounter on emergency incidents while reinforcing the importance of coordinated search operations.

Training is the foundation of everything Fire District 1 does. By continually developing our skills and evaluating modern fire ground tactics, we strengthen our ability to protect the communities we serve, while enhancing firefighter safety.
