Stay safe, Kittery!
WEEKEND WEATHER: BE PREPARED
A storm system is expected to bring rain, strong winds, and hazardous coastal conditions to the Kittery area this weekend. The National Weather Service is forecasting brisk northeast winds, with gusts around 40 mph possible along the coast Friday night through Sunday, along with dangerous surf, large breaking waves, and the potential for minor coastal flooding and splash-over around high tide.
The U.S. Coast Guard is also urging the public to exercise extreme caution. Forecasted marine conditions include northeast winds of 20–30 knots, gusts exceeding 40 knots, and 9–13 foot seas from late Thursday evening through Monday. Boaters are strongly advised against operating in adverse weather conditions.
Residents are encouraged to:
Secure or bring inside outdoor furniture, decorations, trash cans, and other loose items.
Make sure flashlights and batteries are readily available.
Keep phones and other devices charged.
Stay alert for coastal flooding and never drive through flooded roadways.
Use caution while traveling, particularly during periods of heavier rain or stronger winds.
Monitor local weather forecasts and emergency notifications for changing conditions.
Boaters & Waterfront Residents:
Secure boats, paddle craft, and other watercraft.
Consider remaining in port or seeking safe harbor during hazardous conditions.
Monitor changing weather and marine forecasts.
