The rally was great and I loved it. Sometimes I feel like I was born in the wrong era, but every now and then I get to experience a civil rights movement. From what I have learned a single rally is not enough. We have to keep the pressure on. We have to do more than just march. We need to hold our elected officials accountable, and we need to be speaking to anyone who will listen who cares about kids.
I serve Florida. I serve the FEA.
Find your legislators to thank them or educate them.
Find Your Legislator | Florida Education Association
The Florida legislature is made up of local representatives who are supposed to serve YOU… not the special interests in Tallahassee.

Prior to Super Week in September I thought it would be good for our students if I made the effort to build bridges, to reach across the aisle. I contacted each Florida Republican’s office to make an appointment to discuss education issues. You know, I figured as an educator I could perhaps educate the legislator because who knows better than the guy who’s in the trenches, right? Actually, I contacted 7 or 8 because I thought what if all of them wanted to meet.
I was unable to secure an appointment with any of them.
How can we make progress if we can’t even talk to each other?

I normally post whatever's on my mind on my regular page.
The fun never ends and the fight for free quality public education continues!

"The world in which we live equally distributes talent, but it doesn’t equally distribute opportunity."
I borrowed this from a college recruitment commercial. I had to because it resonated with me. This is why traditional public schools are important to me. This is why I continue to fight. ( even though some days I’m just tired of all the negativity ) I hope you join me so we can encourage each other along the way to making our world a better place.

YOU are an advocate/ evangelist. The general public has no grasp of the miracles you perform each day. Educate them. Spend more time on solutions instead of defining the problem.

This kind of ticks me off. The teacher unwanted to get supplies for her kids which the district would not provide. She thought outside the box to make it happen. She was penalized. Correction her kids were penalized too. So was it OK with the district as long as she was spending her own money ???

Evergreen School District teachers told to stop using crowdfunding site Donors Choose
Crowdfunding campaigns are often used to help raise money after someone suffers a health ailment or a devastating accident, but they're also used by teachers to help raise money to buy supplies for their classrooms.Amy Johnson, a third-grade teacher at Eve

Do you believe in Democracy and dialogue?
Want to show up at Congressional Town Hall Meetings?
Check this site out. This is one of the things the NEA does for you. It provides opportunity.
Build a relationship with the Congressman or Congresswoman while they are home, away from DC. Build a relationship by interacting with them BEFORE you need something. As a bonus, it's a heckuva lot cheaper when they're here as opposed to when they're in DC. Remember, they work for you.
I hope you focus on
Opposing ANY budget cuts to public education
Opposing private school vouchers, no matter what they are called
but your voice is your own.

So how do we get the country to come together? If we can't agree on anything else we ought to agree on educating our kids. Maybe I'm just too optimistic. I welcome your input.

Somehow the blame always falls on the teachers, why? If teachers are paid so well, why do so many have 2nd jobs or side hustles? Don't forget that here in Florida, they effectively broke their promise, their contract with teachers by taking 3% to help balance the state budget. Why didn't they take from other groups in the same Florida Retirement System? http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/08/01/governor-rauner-education-funding-veto-cps/
Rauner Vetoes Education Funding Bill, Removes $250M For CPS
The governor used his amendatory veto power to remove a $250 million block grant for CPS from the legislation, among other changes.

Hey, thanks for visiting my page . If you came here looking for Lare Allen the guy running for re election you might be slightly disappointed. I tried to maintain a separate page, but I couldn't get the hang of it besides educational issues are part of my daily life so I talk about them on my main page.
But Lare what-if I don't have kids in the school system?
That's fantastic! I'm guessing you have grandchildren or nieces or nephews or cousins or even the neighbor's kid down the street that is a sharp little guy or girl. The point is if we're lucky we'll get to be old and these kids will be taking care of us, making decisions for us so for purely selfish reasons we need be there for them now so they can be there for us later.
I invite you to get involved in educational issues because our whole country depends on it .
