Last week, our 3rd grade students participated in a hands-on βIce Cream in a Bagβ science investigation exploring how matter can be measured, compared, and described. Students observed the transformation of a liquid mixture into a solid while measuring and comparing temperatures of materials like ice, salt, and the mixture (SC.3.P.8.1). They also examined how ingredient amounts relate to mass and volume (SC.3.P.8.2). Using their senses and scientific tools, students compared properties such as texture, temperature, and hardness, noting changes from liquid to solid (SC.3.P.8.3). They recorded their observations through drawings and written explanations, strengthening skills in prediction, observation, and real-world application.
