There is a small scene in The Five-Star Weekend where one woman hands another one something and says, do you trust me? Just put it on.
It is a nothing moment. It is also not.
Because if you are the woman who knows, decides, plans, fixes, and leads, being handed something and told to just trust it is harder than it looks.
I know that woman. I am that woman a lot of the time.
You get so used to being the one who has it handled that you stop letting anybody else have an opinion about your life. Not out of arrogance. Out of history. Somewhere along the way you learned that if you do not hold it, it drops.
But there is a cost to that, and it shows up in business fastest.
Ask yourself this one honestly. Who in your life can say to you, I think you are making this harder than it needs to be, or that price is too low, or you have been building that thing for two years and nobody has been asked to buy it yet.
And you would actually hear it. Not get defensive. Hear it.
For a lot of us the honest answer is nobody.
That is not because we are unlovable. It is because we have quietly trained everybody around us to believe we do not need anything.
Who has earned the right to challenge you?
If nobody comes to mind, that is the answer to a different question you have been asking.
