Ever wondered what an Albuquerque Institute of Math and Science (AIMS) Rocket Launch looks like? Here's one, from 26 Sep 2025, participating in a STARBASE Advanced Rocket Launch day! Looks like they're having a blast.

We got more than our "Fair" share of fun in the sun at the New Mexico State Fair Science & Technology and Environment Appreciation Day, Friday, 12 Sepember 2025!

Visitors to our booth got to make their own light-up electric LED lanyards by constructing a Simple Circuit, because Electric Bling on a String is the Thing!!

They caught some rays exploring different devices you could power by hooking them up to a solar panel, including a small fan, speakers, and a multi-colored LED light. The little solar panel stand could be tilted and angled to catch more or less rays from the sun, too. Much like a satellite in space does.

In fact, it was just a miniature representation of our whole booth...we had a larger solar panel hooked up to a generator, helping power four fans and a TV set for our booth!

That TV set was there to play a short video about satellite technology...in front of a life-size cubesat display showing the solar panels and where you would put them!

Eddie Garcia, the meteorologist from Channel 4 News, even stopped by with his camera crew and showed off our booth to his viewers!

The new school year is here, and DoD STARBASE NM is off and running!

Among other things, so far the students have used coordinates to find planes in a plane, searched a spaceship in a virtual scavenger hunt, hollowed out a Gyrosphere virtually with CAD software, raced CO2-powered racecars, and used littleBits electronic components to make little inventions.

And that's just the first two days!

Having fun at our booth at the 2025 AFRL Picnic on 24 July was a walk in the park!

Visitors got to make and use marshmallow catapults, enjoy some cryogenically frozen treats, and make some LED lanyards and paper circuit badges! STEM makes for a great picnic.

Boy, have we had FUN the last few days! Three separate events back to back, June 11, 12, and 16, at an Emergency Preparedness event, a Q Station STEM event, and an outdoor Marquez Park event!

There was so much STEM to see and interact with, for kids of all ages! Ozobots, Cryo demonstrations, laser mazes and lenses, diffraction grating lenses, straw rockets, LED lanyards, LED paper circuit satellite badges, snap circuits, STEM Pathways, Career Cards...

The Kirtland Air Fiesta Airshow 2025 was a flying success! 31 May through 1 June 2025, thousands of visitors came to Kirtland Air Force Base to see aerial demonstrations and static displays, and much more!

While there, hundreds of Airshow visitors, old friends, and new friends stopped by our booth in the STEM Hangar! Everywhere you looked, there was something interesting to see. With the help of staff and volunteers, kids of all ages explored various hands-on STEM activities like the science of satellites, making glowing LED lanyards, and launching Straw Rockets.

They broke light apart through a Diffraction Grating, bent a laser through some lenses, and and bounced a laser around a maze. Visitors could picture themselves as astronauts, and check out the 3D-printed airplane models being printed out by the Maker Hub gang.

Thanks for coming, everyone! It was a GREAT event!

The 2025 Robotics Challenge Expo was FIRE!! And not just because of the really cool Fireball Freeway course!

20 of the top teams from the 2025 Robotics Challenge competed in the Expo this year. They demonstrated their cyber:bot Robotics and Python programming prowess in several events:

Dancing Your Circuits Off, a Flashy Chassis robotic beauty pageant, Clear the Debris, Navigation ("Follow the Yellow Brick Road"), a Cyber:Bowl quiz game, two Line Following courses, an Escape the Maze challenge...and making it through the Fireball Freeway better than Evel Knievel ever could (he never had PING sensors on his motorcycle!).

Congratulations to ALL the teams for making it to the Expo, and to our winners: Flashy Chassis--The Amen Men, Core Processor (Team Integrity)--Bluey, Plugged In (Knowledge is Power)--The Sandias...
..and our overall Cyber Command Award winners: Coffee Coders!

And thanks to all the mentors and coaches who helped set this Expo on fire!! In a good way.

We beat SpaceX to Mars by at least several years! On 24 April 2025, over 1,000 fifth grade students assembled at the Albuquerque Convention Center for the Mission to Mars Link-Up Day event. There, they simulated going on a manned mission to Mars, to complete the 2025 Gravitational Research Energy Antenna Test (GREAT) Mission!

Among other things, they gave life support system briefings, massed their Link-Up Day lunch, performed song-and-dance sagas, and built 54 plastic habitats and linked them together into 4 colonies!

Zak Wilson, a member of real-world NASA Mars simulation Hi-SEAS III, was there--showing students a fascinating bell jar vacuum demonstration--as was the World's Friendliest Star Wars Stormtrooper, accompanied at times by some appropriate Imperial March music.

The Force was strong with this mission, and the students did GREAT!
