Congratulations to Audrey!!🎉

Audrey began working in the studio in the summer of 2021. I knew we would be a great fit since she comes from a family of creatives. She has softness and strength in her voice and likes to work on songs by Hozier, Audrey Mika, Rihanna, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nina Simone. She has a natural talent and I hope she continues to sing throughout her life. I can't wait to see her successes at Mizzou in the coming years!📸

Here is her bio:
I first began singing when I was around seven or eight years old after my cousin and I wrote songs and performed them during family gatherings. These small, casual performances really sparked great interest within me. I’ve always loved music and was fascinated with vocal performance. I first performed in a few of my school talent shows in elementary school and from there, I continued to sing and explore different genres of music.

In sixth grade I began taking voice and guitar lessons, singing covers of songs I enjoyed and making them my own unique version in the process. Every few months, my vocal teacher would host live shows for each student to have the chance to present a song of their choice. Although I dealt with some performance anxiety and nerves, I was so proud of myself and grateful for the opportunity each time. Sharing my voice was something I struggled with moving into my high school years, but with age, came a new found confidence which inspired me to perform again.

I began working with Miss Natalie this past summer and she’s helped me tremendously over the last six months. My school offers various opportunities to share music and other talents, so I took advantage of those moments to do what I love and I continue to do so today.

I plan on studying photojournalism, focusing on social justice and current events. I definitely want to join choir or an acapella group in college to maintain music as a prominent factor in my life and take it with me wherever I end up! Special thanks to my parents who have helped me find confidence in my voice, and truly pursue singing for the past eight years. Thanks all, and enjoy! :)

Come see Audrey perform at her Senior Recital May 15th at 2pm at the Old Orchard Art Gallery 39 S. Old Orchard Webster Groves, MO 63119.

Congratulations to the studio's graduate-Maren!🥳

Maren came to me in the fall of 2021 and I was so excited to work with someone who possesses such talent and maturity. She and I share many connections in people including her former guitar teacher Kevin Koehler and with music. We both love singer-songwriters and I I enjoyed hearing music from the Lumineers, Phoebe Bridgers, Caamp, and Hozier through her.🎶

I love the gentle breathiness of her voice and her ability to convey emotions. She is a talented guitarist able to accompany herself in thoughtful ways that don't overpower her singing. It has been a joy to get to know her and hear her each week and I can't wait to see how she succeeds in life. She is off to Colorado State in the fall to study Psychology.🧠

Here is her self-written bio:
Maren has loved music her whole life and was inspired at a young age to become a performer. She formally began lessons in ukulele at the age of 13 and began guitar lessons the following year. Some accomplishments to note include performing in numerous school talent shows as well as the Webster Groves Art Fair. This year she began studying with Miss Natalie and performed in the 2021 winter recital. Maren graduated from Nerinx Hall and will be attending college at Colorado State in the fall of 2022 studying psychology

Check out her talents on her Instagram: marenlane.music and at her Senior Recital May 15th at 2pm at the Old Orchard Art Gallery at 39 S Old Orchard Ave b, Webster Groves, MO 63119.

We can't forget about the classics!! I love to teach out of the Essential Piano Repertoire books because they have songs from the 17th, 18th, and 19th century and provide a background of the history of music.

What is your favorite Classical piano song?

When working with teens & adults I LOVE working with The Contemporary Singer & Vocal Workouts for the Contemporary Singer.

They provide easy to advanced workouts for singers and information about the vocal instrument that is understandable and applicable.

Have you worked out of these books? Let me know!!

I am passionate about including many styles of music in the studio! One of my favorite composers & series of books are from the Supersonics Piano Collection.

These pieces are more contemporary and are pattern based. Many sound like video game or movie music and incorporate many different styles like Jazz, Blues, Ballads, and technique.

I am SO pleased to hear these songs each week in piano lessons!

A few of my favorite things!! BOOKS! 📕
Here are just a few of my favorites that we use in the studio.

The Full Voice is a great book that introduces concepts of note-reading, rhythm, sightsinging, performance, and more. It is a staple and I am obsessed!!

Teaching the Child Singer is a great resource for teacher's in understanding the young voice. It also offers fun and exciting exercises to incorperate in the studio.

Have you heard of these books? Let me know in the comments.

The studio proudly uses Piano Adventures piano method by Nancy & Randall Faber. 🎹

I have been using this method for about 19 years and love how it gradually introduces concepts in performance, theory, and technique & artistry as well as a wide variety of genres such as Rock 'n Roll, Classical, Jazz & Blues, and Popular music.
