Nailed It! 4-H Woodworking Camp πŸ”¨πŸͺ΅

Earlier this month, we partnered with Jones County 4-H for this hands-on day camp where youth learned valuable woodworking and tool safety skills while creating projects they could take home and enjoy. Throughout the day, campers learned how to safely use a variety of tools including hammers, drills, screwdrivers, levels, and measuring tapes. They practiced measuring wood, hammering nails, drilling holes, and building projects from start to finish.

Youth created their own stained wooden bookends, built and painted bird feeders to take home, and even received bird seed to help attract feathered visitors. Campers also designed a unique 4-H string art project by outlining a clover with nails and wrapping it with colorful yarn.

We are incredibly grateful to Tractor Supply of Kinston for donating wood pallets for our projects. A special thank you goes to Kenny Bennett for donating wood, supplies, and his expertise to help teach lessons throughout the day. Kenny also generously cut and prepared all of the wood used by our campers, helping make this camp possible.

And a huge thank you to Jason Fox for donating 13 brand-new hammers and additional wood materials for our youth to use. Your generosity helped provide an unforgettable learning experience for our campers!

We think our campers absolutely nailed it! πŸ€πŸ”¨

During 4-H Congress 2026, Lauren Powell was officially inducted as the Southeast District 4-H Member Engagement Officer. This leadership role will allow Lauren to represent youth from across the Southeast District, help connect 4-H members to opportunities, and encourage involvement in 4-H programs and events throughout the coming year.

Lauren's dedication, leadership, and passion for 4-H have already made a positive impact in our county, and we know she will do an outstanding job serving at the district level. We are excited to see all she accomplishes in this new role! πŸ€πŸ‘

Last week was a blast. So proud of these young people for getting outside their comfort zones, making new friends, learning new things, putting their hands to larger service, and making Lenoir County proud!

Having a blast at Congress! πŸ€

Days 2 & 3 were filled with learning, leadership, service, and fun. From engaging workshops and district meetings to getting to know our state officer candidates, participating in meaningful service projects, and dancing the night away at the silent disco - it’s been a great time!
