Over the past three days, our TRIO Talent Search Summer Residential Camp was filled with learning, laughter, new experiences, and opportunities for growth.

From July 13–15, our students had the chance to experience college life firsthand by staying on campus, building meaningful friendships, developing leadership and communication skills, exploring campus resources, and gaining the confidence to see themselves as future college students. Residential camp is more than just a summer experience—it’s an opportunity for students to step outside of their comfort zones, become more independent, and begin envisioning their future beyond high school.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible campus partners—Student Success, Workforce Development, Student Engagement and Campus Life, Global Engagement and the TAMUK Honors College for taking the time to invest in our students. Your knowledge, encouragement, and willingness to share your experiences made a lasting impact. Thank you for pouring into the next generation and helping our students discover new possibilities for their futures.

Day 3 of the TRIO Talent Search Adventure!

The day started at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum followed by the LSU Center for River Studies in Baton Rouge.

Students then had Lunch at the 459 commons dining hall at Louisiana State University. This was exactly what we needed for the tour of the campus. We received a presentation from LSU admissions and then took a walking tour. Seeing the dorms, Engineering building and Mike the Tiger Habitat!

After a full day the students worked up an appetite for a well deserved sit down dinner!

Day 2!

Tour of University of New Orleans, soon to be Louisiana State University-New Orleans.

Student started the day with an admission presentation with a tour of the campus to follow.

They learned about a tradition where students throw beaded necklaces into a tree and it is said the higher it lands in the tree the higher your GPA.

We ended the day with a swamp tour. The students got to see the same swamp that inspired the Disney movie The Princess and the Frog.

Tomorrow will be another day full of activities. Stay tuned!
