We were unable to share a video with our picture post from today, but here are one of the videos of our guest, Charlie, playing the doumbek and incorporating some of the hemiolas he had taught our campers to tap out earlier in the workshop!

Day 5 of camp!

Acknowledging our campers (from both Wednesday and Thursday) who were wonderful representations of our 3 camp rules!

Charlie Kalajian was our guest artist today who came in to do a body percussion and rhythm workshop! The campers learned how to master tapping out different rhythms in each hand — the hemiolas (2 vs. 3 and 3 vs. 4) were MUCH harder but they were able to catch on fairly quickly after some practice and helpful phrases/counting tricks to master them!

Today was our last full day of camp meaning the last set of music theory, piano, and music history classes were wrapped up this afternoon. We have one last orchestra rehearsal tomorrow morning and then our concert at 1:30pm at the Music Annex — come see what our string campers have been working hard on this past week!

Day 4 of camp! We were so grateful to have Hannah Beekman from Beekman Violin, Inc. come in today to talk to our campers about string instruments, how to care and maintain their own instruments, and when to bring their instrument to a luthier to be checked out! Thank you, Hannah, for educating our campers in a fun and engaging way! 🎻🔧

(In our haste to get to the morning rehearsal, we forgot to take a photo of our campers that were kind, safe, and participated yesterday… We will remedy this tomorrow!)

Day 3 of camp! Our special presentation today was the Staff Recital where our 5 staff members performed for the campers, sprinkling in concert etiquette as an audience member AND as a performer. At the end, we had an in depth discussion about performance anxiety and some methods to help quell/redirect that nervous energy, something many of us musicians experience!

Day 2 is in the books!

We acknowledged 3 campers who embodied our 3 rules of camp: be safe, be kind, and participate during the morning meeting. Thank you to these campers for being awesome role models! 🛟❤️⭐️

Day 1 was a success! Orchestra rehearsals, music theory, music history, and piano classes today! Our feel like temp today hit the high 90s (🥵), our kids were troopers though trekking across campus and back, twice!
