The Friends of Historic Kingston (FHK) has opened its exhibition, Kingston: The IBM Years. Come see it at the Friends' Gallery at the corner of Main and Wall Streets in Uptown Kingston, across from the Old Dutch Church. Hours are 11-4 on Fridays and Saturdays thru October 31, 2014. We're pleased! The Friends of Historic Kingston’s exhibition, Kingston—The IBM Years, has received a 2015 Award for Excellence from the Greater Hudson Heritage Network, NY State’s leading organization serving history museums, historic sites and archives. Kingston—The IBM Years was recognized for the community collaboration and documentation in the creation of the both the exhibition and related publication. Thank you, GHHN, and thank you everyone for sharing your memories and precious artifacts. Catalogues still available!

Pleased and honored that Frances Halsband, esteemed architect and artist, has chosen to donate her drawings that illustrated Gail Godwin's essay in the Kingston--The IBM Years catalogue. The Kingston--The IBM Years website is going live! Check out the images and text and a page of all the oral histories people so generously contributed. The website is produced by Southeastern NY Library Resources Council (SENYLRC), which coordinates the Hudson River Valley Heritage (HRVH) service. Very exciting news! A website for Kingston--The IBM Years is about to go live. It is being done by the Friends of Historic Kingston in collaboration with SENYLRC, the Southeastern NY Library Resources Council. Tomorrow is the last day for the "Kingston--The IBM Years" exhibition. It will live on, though, in the publication co-published by the Friends and Black Dome Press and the compilation of 54 oral histories that the Friends produced. We hope that, in the next few months, we'll be able to create an exhibition Web site on the HRVH Web portal. Stay tuned. Thanks, everyone, for your help, your interest and your kind words.

We saw a rough cut of a new film, "Lost Rondout," by Lynn Woods and Stephen Blauweiss about Urban Renewal and the destruction of Rondout. It was a reminder that the Comprehensive Development Plan of 1961 provided the justification. The plan is on line and provides a chilling reminder of attitudes toward cities at the time:http://www.kingston-ny.gov/filestorage/4463/Comp_Plan_Circa_1961.pdf .
