Athena Tutoring Services I offer tutoring services for those wanting to learn or improve their Spanish language, English as another language, or math.

Hi, my name is Athena Liousas and I am well on my way in the path of becoming an enthusiastic elementary school teacher! I will be completing my Masters in Elementary Education this May 2015. I have my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. I speak English, Greek, Spanish, and some Portuguese. I have traveled out of the country to Greece, Cape Verde, and t

he Dominican Republic. I have a passion for education, language, culture, and making sure that every child succeeds. I have worked with children of all ages, from preschool to high school, and in a variety of settings. I am very caring, supportive, responsible, creative, artistic, versatile, and committed. This is an article written about the schools in Jersey City and the struggles they are facing with the new PARCC exam. The teachers and students in Jersey City are in a very similar situation as the teachers and students I work with in Brockton.

I believe in setting the bar high for students, but not unreachable. I see the effort and progress my fourth grade students are making every day; and yet, I'm nervous this test is going to cause the kids to feel like they have regressed when that is not the case.

Students need to know that we believe in their success.

What are your thoughts?

Jersey City parents and teachers worry preparation for the upcoming PARCC testing diminishes a love of learning.
