PURCELL THE FAIRY-QUEEN
Auditions are coming!
URI Opera Theatre is excited to announce auditions for Henry Purcell’s The Fairy-Queen, a spectacular work of Restoration theatre combining music, drama, dance, comedy, fantasy, and Shakespearean-inspired spectacle. Based loosely on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Fairy-Queen transports its audience into a world of enchanted forests, quarrelling lovers, supernatural beings, comic characters, and theatrical magic. This production will explore Purcell’s music through a historically informed performance approach, while embracing the theatrical possibilities of the work for a contemporary university stage. Whether you are an experienced opera performer or someone who has always wanted to try opera, this is an opportunity to be part of a collaborative production that sits at the intersection of opera, musical theatre, early music, and contemporary theatrical practice.
