Poem 1

He had warned me twice
Tipping the gun gently away
The empty shells flying over my left shoulder
The third time he stood and watched
As I un-cocked the shotgun
And saw the wisp of smoke from each barrel
Just before the shells flew into my face
The hot metal a quick electric sting
A sharp puffing of my chest with fear
And my father’s short laugh
"I bet you won’t do that again."

Restaurant Poem 1

In two weeks I haven’t seen the dishwasher’s face
Only felt his sad energy
As I slide him the dishes, through the stainless steel window
Across the human mess
Of sauces and rice, chunks of meat and ice cream,
Humid pools of dishwater and the puffs of steam
To his long and lean black arms

Bolsita

Landfills in Argentina are open to the air

A steady wind blows through this country
Picking up wind across colbalt blue lakes
Tunneling between mountain peaks to hills
Where shrubs grow low and bent

If you travel south through the stark landscape
Patagonian spring is leafless and beige
And the continent unrolls for you, open and wide
White peppered with sheep

When you see the caballeros
Walking their ponies out in the yellow dawn
You may almost feel, like you´ve seen a true frontier

If it weren´t for the thousand plastic bags
Rolling slowly towards the sea

Hey everyone. If you missed class Friday, you missed some good writing. I was so impressed by the sophistication of the Dali inspired pieces. We wrote to the painting The Ship, featured in the new profile picture. Everyone who was absent should make this up by class tomorrow.

The journal prompt for today was entitled, "Through the Looking Glass," and required you to step through the metaphoric looking glass (mirror) and create an alternate world of your own design. Oh, the new unit is called...Fantasy Fiction...I'll check this writing tomorrow!

Today we started a new unit and five weeks grades were submitted. This means no more creative non-fiction pieces will be accepted :(
