Since 1913, Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County (CCEUC) continues to use research based knowledge through their partnership with Cornell University to assist the residents of Ulster County. CCEUC offers resources, tools and education through on-going community programming in efforts to improve the lives of a broad and diverse county population. Program areas include: Agriculture, Horticult

ure, 4-H Youth Development, Healthy Communities, and Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program. CCEUC works to extend the educational resources of Cornell University, the Land Grant university system and other educational institutions, to the people of Ulster County to foster economic, social and environmental improvement of its individuals, families and communities. CCEUC is a registered 501(c) 3 non-profit educational organization and part of the Cornell Cooperative Extension land grant system, a partnership between County, State, and Federal governments. Extension staff and trained volunteers deliver education programs, conduct applied research, and foster community collaborations.

Fall is the best time to plant perennials, trees and shrubs! The Master Gardener Program is holding its Annual Plant Sale, a fundraiser for the Demonstration Gardens and Meadow, on Saturday, September 19th!

Join us at the Demonstration Garden at SUNY Ulster from 10am to noon and shop an array of plants from the Demonstration Gardens, plus perennials, shrubs, trees and even houseplants grown by the Master Gardeners!

Cash or check will be accepted - no need to register. We'll see you there!

Come learn how to successfully divide perennials and ornamental grasses at our Perennial Division workshop on Saturday, October 17th at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at SUNY Ulster!

Participants will work in small groups guided by Master Gardeners and get to go home with a few great new plants for your very own garden!

Come join the CCE Ulster team! We have TWO positions open and we are looking for passionate educators to fill these roles:

We are hiring a Family Education Coordinator who will be responsible for developing and implementing family educational programs that benefit the health and welfare of Ulster County families.
This is a part-time, 28 hours per week, benefits eligible position. Please apply online by September 2, 2026!

AND

We are hiring a Healthy Communities Educator who will develop, implement, plan, and coordinate public education programming to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among families and individuals encompassing all age groups throughout Ulster County.

You're invited to our Bilingual Field Day: Pasture-based Regenerative Egg Production on August 24th from 3-5:30pm at Titusville Farm!

As farmers we want to grow a superior product, care for the wellbeing of our livestock, regeneratively manage our land, and economize our labor and expenses. Managing our laying hens on pasture can produce more nutritious and visually appealing eggs, healthier birds, improved soils, and simpler waste management.

Join us in the field with experts Leon Vehaba, Director of Titusville Farm and Kathryn Brignac, CCE Ulster Livestock Educator, and receive a practical and theoretical understanding of how to best manage your pasture-based egg operation.

Our 4-H'ers, their families, our CCE Ulster staff, and our volunteers showed up strong and we are so proud of all of the hard work that went into this year's Fair!

That's a wrap on the Ulster County Fair!

First, we want to highlight our elected officials and thank them for joining us! They were able to see our 4-H'ers give presentations on electricity and how to build a circuit, the importance of turkeys in 4-H, and soccer vs. football. They were also able to join us for a tour of the Animal Barns led by some of our 4-H'ersπŸ€

Today is the last day of the Ulster County Fair! Thank you to everyone who has joined us this week - we could not do what we do without your support! Here's what we have for our last day of programming:

In the Youth Building:

🐟10am-5pm: Join our Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program (AWSMP) staff to learn about the common fish that live in the Ashokan Watershed!

πŸ’¦Our AWSMP staff will also have their interactive stream table where you can learn about the parts of a stream and how they function during times of heavy rain and how human development can impact streams.

🌻10am-5pm: Be sure to visit our Master Gardener Volunteers and ask them all your gardening-related questions!

4-H Activities:

πŸ‘1pm: Join us this afternoon for 4-H Master Showmanship! Our 4-H'ers will show off their wide range of skills and knowledge to win the title of 4-H Master Showman.

πŸ†6pm: Join us in celebrating our 4-H youth at the 4-H Award Ceremony at 4pm in the Show Ring!

In the Youth Building:

🌽10am-6pm: Join our Agriculture team and play Mystery Crop Discovery! Reach into a mystery box and try to identify crops from the texture alone - from fuzzy peaches to silky corn. If you can guess the crop by touch, you will win a prize!

🎨Take a break from exploring to color a fun image of life on the farm with our Agriculture team!

πŸ“ΈAll weekend on the Youth Building: As you are walking through the Youth Building, stop by our self-run Farm-Fresh Photo Booth to get a selfie with a farm-themed superhero!

In the Youth Building:

πŸ’‘10am-6pm: Visit our local Energy Advisor, Mike Murphy, from the Mid-Hudson Energy Hub and ask questions about any and all things energy! You can also learn about some energy tools and gadgets he brought along.

πŸ€10am-6pm: Test your knowledge of 4-H in our trivia game! Play against your friends and family to buzz in first and answer correctly - miss a question and the other team can steal your points!

🌻10am-5pm: Be sure to visit our Master Gardener Volunteers every day in the Youth Building and ask them all your gardening-related questions!

Here is what our CCE Ulster and 4-H staff are up to today at the Ulster County Fair!

In the Youth Building:

🐟10am-6pm: Something's fishy! Practice keeping our waterways clean and healthy by playing a fun fishing game! Learn to identify what fish are safe to eat from the Hudson River and clean up pollutants from the "pool" to win a prize!

🌻10am-5pm: Be sure to visit our Master Gardener Volunteer every day in the Youth Building and ask them all your gardening-related questions!

4-H Activities:
