URI College of Engineering Students and Faculty,
First of all, thank you for your patience with us as we convert the Engineering Computer Center (ECC) into a remote learning facility. It is our pleasure to announce the release of our Apache Guacamole (or Guac) website. This in-browser remote desktop software allows you to access all our labs using your ECC credentials. It is imperative that students only use machines in labs that are not being used for a class. Access the site at guac.egr.uri.edu using your ECC username and password.
While we understand that everyone will need to be able to access their files and the programs offered here at the ECC, it is also important that we are able to keep classes running as smoothly as possible. If you are unsure of which labs are being used when, please click on the spreadsheet of the scheduled classes and their times. (http://egr.uri.edu/wp-uploads/ecc/Remote-Lab-Schedule-week-1.pdf) Please note that all EGR 106 classes are no longer being held in labs. For more information on this, check with your section professor on how those classes will continue.
The labs are labelled in Guac as follows: in the ECC, the main lab is called “203”, the small lab to the back left (from the front of the ECC) is labelled “203B”, the back lab is labelled “203C”, and the computer lab down the hall is labelled “212”. CHE Capstone students will note that they have an additional lab labelled “ChemCap”, where they may access their capstone computers. Only CHE Capstone students have access to this lab.
For instructions on how to access and use Guacamole, please click on our tutorial (http://egr.uri.edu/wp-uploads/ecc/Guacamole-Tutorial.pdf) or our YouTube video tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZCVhxRs0Do).
While you are working remotely, please be aware of all the software that you are able to install on your own personal computer. (http://egr.uri.edu/ecc/guide-to-services/) These are the following:
Microsoft Office: http://portal.office.com Log in with your URI credentials to download office.
Matlab: http://www.mathworks.com/academia/tah-portal/university-of-rhode-island-31427161.html Log in using your URI email address to get access to our site license. Get more information here: http://web.uri.edu/research-computing/matlab
Mathematica: http://www.math.uri.edu/mathematica Log in using your URI email address at http://user.wolfram.com and follow instructions to request an activation key.
AutoCAD/Maya: http://www.autodesk.com/education/home Log in using your URI email address and all AutoDesk products are free to you.
As one final note, the ECC has recently joined several social media apps in order to continue to be able to help students and professors with any and all issues that may occur. You may reach us on Snapchat by following uri_ecc, on Instagram by following uri_ecc, on Facebook at uri_ecc, through Discord via this link: https://discord.gg/w7XUvWu, via email at [email protected] and via our phone line (401) 874-2488. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us during this difficult time.
Thank You,
