A Message from Chef Jenny What you can expect
Welcome Home, Delta Zeta Sisters!
Dear Sisters,
Welcome to another exciting year for Delta Zeta! Whether this is your first time living in the house or you're returning for another semester, we're thrilled to have you here.
Living in a sorority house is a unique experience filled with friendship, laughter, late-night conversations, popcorn movie nights in the great room, and memories that will last a lifetime. To help make our home enjoyable, clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone, we've put together a few guidelines and reminders.
While this letter may seem lengthy, please know that these expectations are designed to help our house run smoothly and ensure a successful semester for all.
Our House Manager will coordinate daily and weekend responsibilities throughout the semester. By Sunday evening, the cafeteria, dining room, and common food-service areas should be cleaned, organized, and ready for the week ahead. Together, we can create a home where everyone feels comfortable, respected, and supported.

I'm looking forward to sharing our new menu with all of you!
With appreciation,
Chef Jenny
Kitchen, Cafeteria & Dining Room Guidelines
Please clean up after yourself whenever you use the cafeteria, dining room, or great room.
Supplies available include:
• Cleaning and sanitizing wipes
• Paper towels
• Broom and dustpan
Each morning, Jenny sanitizes all tables and countertops before food preparation begins. Everyone is responsible for cleaning up after themselves and their guests.
If food-service areas are left excessively dirty, additional cleaning must be completed before cooking can begin, which may delay grill service. Please help us keep things running smoothly by leaving every area clean and ready for the next person.
Water & Juice Dispensers
The beverage dispensers do not have drainage underneath them.
Please:
• Hold your cup in place until dispensing has completely stopped.
• Wait a few seconds before moving your cup.
• Wipe up any spills immediately.
Food Safety
A good rule to remember:
When in doubt, throw it out.
To help prevent foodborne illness:
• Return refrigerated items immediately after use.
• Put food away promptly.
• Wipe down all surfaces after use.
• Wash your hands before handling food.
Any perishable food left out for more than three hours should be discarded.
Sink Etiquette
Please leave the sink clean for the next person.
• Do not leave cereal, soup, salad, or food scraps in the sink.
• Use a paper towel to remove food waste and place it in the trash.
• The sink is not a garbage disposal.
If you strain or drain food in the sink, clean the area afterward.
Returning Dishes
Plates & Bowls
1. Scrape food into the trash.
2. Return dishes to the kitchen window.
Soup Bowls
1. Rinse the bowl.
2. Wipe the sink area if necessary.
3. Return the bowl to the kitchen window.
Recycling & Food Storage
Let's work together to reduce waste.
Before using a plastic container, consider whether plastic wrap or foil may be sufficient.
If using containers:
• Choose an appropriate size.
• Most containers are microwave-safe.
• Black containers are microwave-safe.
Important: Never place aluminum foil or metal in the microwave.
Toaster Oven & Microwave Use
When using the toaster oven:
• Replace foil on trays after use.
• Spray pans before cooking foods such as pita pizzas or tater tots.
Please do not place foam containers in the microwave or toaster oven.
If food splatters or explodes in the microwave, clean it immediately.
Reheating Food
For best results:
1. Loosen the lid.
2. Microwave for one minute.
3. Stir.
4. Continue heating in one-minute intervals until hot.
Tomato soup and other soups are frequently available and may be reheated using the same process.
A Friendly Reminder
Please do not sit on cafeteria counters.
Food is prepared and served on these surfaces, and they must remain clean and sanitary.
Trash & Recycling
Room Trash
Please bring room trash directly to the dumpsters.
Do not place room trash in kitchen garbage cans.
Recycling Dumpster
Use for:
• Flattened cardboard boxes
• Plastic bottles
• Aluminum cans
Do not place black trash bags in recycling containers.
Trash Dumpster
Use for:
• Room garbage
• Kitchen trash
Packages & Boxes
We know packages are exciting!
Please break down cardboard boxes and place them directly into the recycling dumpster.
Do not leave boxes around the house or force them into indoor trash cans.
Taking Out the Trash
If you can see trash through the opening, the can is full.
Please:
1. Wear gloves.
2. Remove the bag.
3. Bring it to the correct dumpster.
4. Replace it with a new bag.
Please do not push trash down into the container, as it can cause spills and make cleanup more difficult.
And yes, taking out the trash is a wonderful task for a visiting boyfriend who would like a snack afterward!

Before touching serving utensils:
• Use the hand sanitizer provided.
• Always return each serving utensil to its original dish.

Meal Plan
Your meal plan includes:
• 5 Breakfasts
• 5 Lunches
• 4 Dinners

Food Service & Guests
The meal plan is intended exclusively for residents living in the house.
Guests may participate in our informal "Work for Food" Program by helping with simple tasks such as:
• Taking trash to the dumpster
• Recycling boxes
• Assisting with small chores
In return, Jenny may prepare a breakfast or lunch item for them.
Please remember:
Food stored in house refrigerators is intended for residents. If you notice non-residents helping themselves to food, please notify house leadership.
See something, say something.
We are fortunate to offer one of the most extensive meal programs on campus, and we want to preserve that benefit for everyone.
Leftovers & Refrigerator Guidelines
Dinner portions are prepared based on the number of residents living in the house.
Any leftovers will be stored in the cafeteria refrigerator for residents.
If you would like food saved:
• Label it with your name.
• Include the date.
All refrigerators are cleaned and refreshed every Monday.
If you frequently save food, consider sharing a small refrigerator with your roommate for your room.
Final Thoughts
This house is more than a building—it is your home for the year. The kindness, respect, and care you show one another will help create an environment where everyone can thrive.
Thank you for helping keep Delta Zeta clean, welcoming, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.
If you have suggestions, concerns, or questions, my door is always open.
Here's to a wonderful semester filled with friendship, great food, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
