Rubber Band Racer Competition Makes History at WVW Middle School!
The engines were revving and excitement filled the air as WVW Middle School students competed in Mr. Moranโs annual Rubber Band Racer Competition. In this hands-on STEM challenge, 8th-grade students designed and engineered wooden racers powered only by rubber bands, all with one goal: travel the farthest down the track.
The 12th annual event delivered a historic finish. Liam Gramps became the first student ever to reach the end of the track and hit the wall, literally running out of room! The crowd erupted as Liam celebrated his record-setting run.
Students showcased impressive creativity, engineering skills, and determination throughout the competition, making for an exciting afternoon of racing and school spirit.

Kingston High School Class of 1976 Returns to Relive the Glory Days
This weekend, Wyoming Valley West was honored to welcome back the Kingston High School Class of 1976 as they returned to their alma mater during their special 50th Class Reunion Weekend.
Classmates had the opportunity to walk the halls, share memories, and relive the experiences that helped shape their lives. It was a wonderful celebration of friendship, tradition, and the lasting connection alumni have to Kingston High School.
A special thank you goes out to Student Council Advisors Mike Chmiola and Christina Sickler, along with Middle School Student Council member Asher Dicton, for providing an outstanding tour of the building and helping make the visit memorable for our guests.
We would also like to thank Abby Singh and Aramark for generously providing snacks and refreshments for the reunion attendees.
Finally, thank you to District Administrator Anthony Dicton for coordinating the event and helping ensure the day was a success.
It was a pleasure welcoming the Class of 1976 back home, and we wish them continued friendship, health, and happiness as they celebrate this remarkable milestone together.

On Friday State Street celebrated its traditional Fifth Grade Farewell Parade! ๐โค๏ธ๐
Our fifth-grade students proudly paraded through the halls as current and former teachers lined the way, waving, cheering, and celebrating their journey. Music filled the building and the red carpet was rolled out as students made their way outside to wave to proud parents and families.
This year, many graduating seniors joined the celebration, returning to State Street where their educational journey first began. It was so special to see former students back in the halls making memories alongside our fifth graders!
The celebration wrapped up in the outdoor classroom where students and seniors enjoyed Ritaโs Italian Ice, danced, laughed, and celebrated this exciting milestone together. Best wishes to our fifth graders as they begin their next chapter! ๐

Yesterday marked an exciting milestone as Leonidas William Gumina graduated from Wyoming Valley West High School. Thankfully, the weather cooperated, allowing family, friends, and classmates to celebrate this important achievement.
Leonidas has built an impressive record of academic excellence, leadership, service, and talent throughout his high school career. A member of the National Honor Society, he maintained a 3.6 GPA and graduated among the Top 70 students in his class.
His dedication extends well beyond the classroom. Leonidas was a four-year member of the Wyoming Valley West Marching Band, serving as Lead Trumpet for his section, and continues to perform with the Concert Band. A gifted musician, he is also a bagpiper with the Wyoming Valley Pipe and Drum Corps and plays both the piano and organ.
In May, Leonidas achieved one of Scoutingโs highest honors by earning the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout service project, completed in April, he partnered with Schielโs in Wilkes-Barre and Pet Supplies Plus in Wilkes-Barre Township to collect donations for Hoboโs Kitten Sanctuary in Bear Creek and NEPA Cat Rescue in Wilkes-Barre. His goal was to collect 150 itemsโbut thanks to his hard work and community support, he collected more than 450 items for the two organizations.
Leonidas successfully passed his Eagle Scout Board of Review on May 20, officially earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He also serves as Quartermaster for Troop 154 and has earned more than 35 merit badges during his Scouting journey.
Congratulations, Leonidas, on your graduation and on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Your commitment to academics, music, leadership, and community service is truly inspiring. We wish you continued success in all your future endeavors!
