Week 5️⃣ of 8️⃣ complete ✔️

Students learned how to digitally scan on each other. By using an intraoral scanner to create a precise three-dimensional image of a patient’s teeth and oral tissues, dental assistants help improve the accuracy of restorations such as crowns, bridges, aligners, and implant restorations while eliminating the need for traditional impression materials. Digital scanning enhances patient comfort, reduces the likelihood of remakes due to inaccurate impressions, and allows dentists and dental laboratories to communicate more efficiently.

Students learned how to take alginate impressions! Creating dental molds is an art in itself, combining precision and creativity. We’ve loved watching our students marvel at the detail and accuracy they can achieve. 🎨🔬

Students poured up dental models and learned how to break them out of the mold and trim them up!

Students fabricated whitening trays and learned how to trim and smooth the tray for patient comfort!

Students finished their resumes and had mock interviews with one of our instructors!

We had another busy patient day with students sitting chairside!

Students assisted with crowns, bridge, temps, composite fillings, emergency exam for a broken tooth (temp filling placed), lesion removed with laser, CAD/CAM scan for a partial, emergency exam for a chipped filling, and nitrous oxide monitoring.

We’ve had a busy two weeks in clinic with students learning spent learning the intricacies of digital radiography and sitting chairside with REAL patients!

Each student took a PAN and FMX on each other and started learning how to identify restorations on radiographs.

Students got to assist chairside with the dentist on a variety of procedures! Students assisted with a new patient and limited exam, crown with buildup including scanning and milling, composite fillings, night guard delivery, scan for implant, and recement a crown.

Students started working on their resumes, took their midterm and nitrous oxide monitoring exams!

Next week…our second patient day!

Our summer class hit the ground running this week!

The last two weeks of clinic have been super busy!

Each student learned how to take a Full Mouth Series and PAN/CBCT on each other. Taking radiographs on each other allows students to experience gag reflexes, tongue movement, mandibular and maxillary tori, etc. We take radiographs on each other so students can see, feel, taste and learn the language required for patient comfort. Students started learning how to identify restorations and missing teeth on radiographs.

Students are continuing to learn about setting up operatories for treatment and breaking down rooms to disinfect.

Students learned to apply fluoride on each other. They learned how to fabricate and adjust crown temporaries.

The next three weeks will be filled with CPR, resumes, and patient days!
