New prize in the collection! This epidendrum was a lucky find (the last one) available at the show today.

This “weed orchid” can be found through South America’s roadsides, and is particularly tough for an orchid. Unlike the paps or Kroger orchids, she produces little clusters of orange and red blooms that last for months. I find her foliage to be much more interesting, but I did have a challenge with my first one to get the watering JUST right. I can’t wait to propagate this beauty!!

New plant alert!

I picked up some self-fertile, cold-hardy kiwi and they are finally popping their little heads out of the soil! Just to be clear, a kiwi will always have either a male or female flower, but this produces both on a single vine. This would be a game-changer for smaller urban spaces, as kiwi can be a slightly aggressive grower if not kept in check, and requiring two could leave you in a Jumanji lookalike contest.

NEW GROWTH ALERT!!! To all my friends asking for cuttings off this , I’m finally getting some new growth of the node I brought back from North Captiva. I can’t wait to share the bounty! She has all the allure of a variegated monsters/philodendron, but is just as easy as any of the pothos vines. Huge shoutout to for bringing this beauty back in her car for me!

We got some bad news today, after all of Lesley’s exhaustive efforts to help Dolly recover from a chicken-cold, weird molting, and honestly slightly older-age, and even seemed on the mend, this wonderful soul passed away. She loved belly-rubs, mealworms, and was the friendliest chicken I’d ever met. She had the best life with the flock on the land, she was free-range, well-fed, and particularly cherished. I’m glad our existences crossed in this great expanse of time. You were a great critter, and I’m glad you charmed all you met. I love you, Dolly.
