And the musical energy which moves them is what l consider to be the greatest vocal performance in the history of popular music - by the lead singer of "Disturbed". A message to all my voice students: the nature of individual lessons, and the premises where l teach are themselves secure and safe. Unless you have reason to be quarantined for your own current state of health, there is no risk of viral transmission in the voice studio. Indeed, the act of singing and investment of all your faculties in making music contributes to your vitality, immunity and well-being - mentally, emotionally, spiritually, as well as physically. Therefore, inasmuch as it is appropriate for you, l encourage you to continue. Of course, as always you have my respect and support of your decisions. There is also the option of Skype lessons which l have been conducting for quite some time successfully. Blessings of peace and good health to you all.

There are moments in life which are weighted with an eternal sense of glory - experiences which weave the manifold swaths of unjust or just mundane materials of life into a cohesive tapestry of redemptive beauty. Tonight was such a night for me, to be implanted in my memory forever - thanks to Limmie Pulliam - an artist, a singer, a musician, a man of the unlimited strength of true humility, resonated through a voice whose power would be frightening, were it not so beautiful. In a recital at Myers Park UMChurch in Charlotte, NC, Limmie garnered the combined acquisitions of world-class vocal technique, years of intensive study of musicality, languages, stylistic and dramatic interpretation, and pressed them all down into the seat of his soul where they became one instinctive, natural organic energy of spirit. And then he did what the greatest artists do - he poured them out in love like a drink offering - love of the music, love of us, love for his God. Without self-concern, he gave, and gave, and kept giving. In so doing, Limmie Pulliam gave us a picture of what our humanity can yet be. As overwhelming as it is to be in the presence of one of the greatest tenor voices in history, it is more powerful yet to be in the presence of the Spirit he brought.

Last night, a beloved member of the family of the the soul known as the Emory & Henry Concert Choir, Kevin Flannagan, left this mortal time and place to enter into the eternal realm of which we sang. I loved him as a son, a student, a friend, and throughout the years, a colleague and brother. If l were to try to write a tribute to this unique young man who strove through innumerable challenges to emerge as a man of servanthood, artistry, integrity, commitment, and faith, l would utterly fail to the task. I believe the greatest way to honor him is to have his beloved choir friends sing him to heaven with his favorite - the Kyrie of the Verdi Requiem in which he sang the Bass solos. Please - all of you, when you have ten minutes, listen to this excerpt, and pray him into God's presence, giving thanks for his life. And rejoice that he now knows that glorious music beyond all we have yet imagined!
