At Kingsford Heights, “Together we roar” is the motto, and every single member of the Tiger family brings a unique addition that is celebrated and appreciated. Angie McKeehan is one of those special members whose contributions can’t be measured or replaced.

McKeehan officially serves as the PTO president and is the permanent building sub. Those two roles alone would be more than enough, but she is also on the STEM team and the Garden Committee. If there is a need, she will selflessly step in to help.

“I'm in my fourth year with KHES, and I try to jump in wherever I'm needed. From helping with a student who needs some extra care to organizing the STEM items to create a checkout system to planning a school garden to, of course, being a sub for our wonderful teachers when needed! I'm the resident go-to craft resource as well. If you need something crafty, you find me, and I'll do my best to make it happen. I love to create bulletin boards! I have big dreams for a greenhouse installation coming this fall that will eventually supply our students with not only food, but growing and harvesting experience, as well as cooking demonstrations and family meal events like a spaghetti dinner,” McKeehan said.

McKeehan daughter attends KHES, which is the catalyst for all the time spent at the school. She started volunteering right away and never knew it would turn into another home.

“It's turned into more of a family than I ever expected. I enjoy the things I do at school. I have a creative outlet that benefits our students and probably saves my husband from having to entertain my crazy ideas. Watching our students grow and learn and realize they can do anything they put their minds to is my favorite part! Helping them expand their minds and creativity is so important to becoming healthy, well-rounded, successful students. I love that I get to play a role in that,” McKeehan said.

Her impact is felt far and wide, and second-year principal Holly Wireman has found McKeehan contributions to be invaluable.

“Angie McKeehan is the definition of a true team player and a dedicated Tiger! As our PTO President, Angie gives so much of her time, energy, and heart to helping KHES grow and thrive. While her daughter attends KHES, Angie’s commitment goes far beyond being a parent—she truly believes in the impact that STEM education, family engagement, and meaningful school events can have on our students and our entire community. As a substitute in our building, she also has the unique opportunity to know our students, build relationships with them, and see firsthand the difference a strong school community can make. We are incredibly grateful for all that Angie does and for the passion, positivity, and dedication she brings to our KHES family. She truly helps us ROAR!” Wireman said.

McKeehan and her family never had to be a part of the Tiger family. It was a choice they made, and it has felt like a touch of fate, as her family is now woven deeply into the fabric of the school and community.

“Since we live outside of KH district, we chose KHES for small class sizes and more of a family feeling. I love being the building sub because I get to experience all the grade levels and meet all the students. All of our staff members are amazing and devoted to our students! While our smaller class sizes are wonderful, I think it's the teachers and staff that make the difference. I have made some great friends, and it truly feels like family,” Mckeehan said.

The fond memories at KHES are extensive for McKeehan and her family. The everyday joys and various activities are treasured. Her favorite memory of the past four years is undoubtedly the school board choosing to keep KHES open. Her favorite event is happening in just a few months.

“My favorite event is our Enchanted Elves Market. As part of our STEM curriculum, I created an entirely student and staff-curated market. Every year in early November, we start working on projects to sell at our market. We make soap, body scrub, candles, bookmarks, beaded keychains, dog treats, jewelry, slime, magnets, crocheted items, ornaments, snow globes, etc. Every week, each class has a project to work on, and everything goes into our market. We will be able to create 3D-printed items with our new 3D printer soon as well! The last week before Christmas break, our Tigers get to shop for gifts for their family and friends! Our Tigers take pride in what they make because they know someone else may buy it for their family. It's such a wonderful experience for all of us!” McKeehan said.

McKeehan and others are always looking for new members for the PTO. It truly takes a village.

“We always need help running events and brainstorming new ideas! We love supporting our Tigers!” McKeehan said.

Some decisions feel like destiny, and the McKeehan family becoming Tigers feels like one. In a world of school choice, this is the one she knew was the best for her daughter, and she would encourage others to join in the KHES family.

“KH is a small town with a huge heart! The community stands with the school, which I think was evident when the discussion about closing our building came up. KH is growing! It is so nice to see new families joining us! Our smaller class sizes make for an extra individualized education. We genuinely care about our students and their families!” McKeehan said.

Every Tiger in our family is important, and today we celebrate Mrs. McKeehan for all she does for our students, staff, and families every single day.

We are excited to introduce our new staff members over the next few weeks.

Meet Mrs. Santana, who will be teaching one of our Applied Skills classes at KHES.

The Indiana University South Bend grad feels right at home as a Tiger and has loved working with people who care deeply about our students, who celebrate the little victories, and who bring plenty of smiles (and a little laughter!) along the way. She is thankful to be part of a team who makes the school days brighter and a whole lot more fun!

She is a twin mom to two 4-year-old boys, which, according to her, means she's mastered the art of chaos. She loves a good adventure and always has room for “just one more” plant.

Welcome to the Tiger family, Mrs. Santana!
