Proposed volunteer control windows across Kansas aim to reduce wheat streak mosaic risk. These windows span the 30 days before the optimal winter wheat planting date in each region. 🌾⁠

Here are key considerations for successful wheat-free windows:⁠

🟡Terminate all volunteer wheat so it’s completely dead before your regional window begins.⁠

🟡Delay fall wheat planting until the end of the window, if possible.⁠

🟡Avoid planting other winter cereals (like rye or triticale) during this time, as they can carry curl mites.⁠

🟡A regional break in the green bridge helps curl mites die off before wheat planting.⁠

🟡Volunteer wheat emerging after the window is less concerning, as it aligns with winter wheat establishment.⁠

🟡Community-wide coordination is essential for success.⁠

The 5th Annual Color Run will be here before we know it! This is an amazing community event that brings together people for a great cause. This event will be on September 26 from 7 to 10 am at Riverside Park. If you would like to run, walk, or volunteer, please get registered today!

The Kingman County Color Run is just around the corner. If you would like a free t-shirt, you must register before Sept. 10. Please visit our website at www.kingmanhc.com/event/1733 to easily register as a walker/runner or vendor. This is free community event.

We never shared pictures from our time at the Wildlife Workshop held in late July. Members learned about wildlife habitat, track identification, and Kansas wildlife facts! Everyone had a great time!

Join K-State Extension – Kingman County for an exciting Wildlife Workshop where youth will explore the amazing world of Kansas wildlife through fun, hands-on activities!

🕜 Time: 1:30–3:30 p.m.
📍 Location: Saddle & Ropers Building, Kingman Expo Center

Participants will learn about:
🦌 The needs of Kansas wildlife
🐾 Animal tracks and signs
🪶 Hides and animal identification
🦅 Predator and prey relationships
🌳 What makes a healthy wildlife habitat

This interactive workshop is a great opportunity for youth to discover more about the animals that call Kansas home while learning through engaging activities.
