The Killeen Branch #6189 NAACP was established in July 1970. The Branch meets monthly. The students attending Marlboro Elementary were all African Americans.

In 1970, a group of concerned Killeen Citizens met to discuss the closure of Marlboro Elementary School, which had been declared "Racially Unbalanced" by the Killeen Independent School District. Those concerned citizens decided to seek assistance from the NAACP Regional and Field Office. These seven citizens were officially charged as an NAACP Committee with the sole purpose of organizing a Branch

So proud of our Youth Council!! During today’s monthly General membership meeting, KDH reporter Daelan Cheh talked to them about Your Voice Is Your Power!
Their assignment- how will you use your voice to advocate for change? Can’t wait to read their essays!

Recap of the many faces of Impact at the NAACP Back to School Rally on Saturday, August 1!

August 5, 2023, history took a seat and then picked one up.

On the Montgomery Riverfront, ordinary people did extraordinary things, and one humble folding chair earned a permanent place in the Black Cultural Hall of Fame.

What began as an act of injustice, signaled by a single white cap, became a global reminder that when our community answers the call, we answer together for the historical event formally known as “Fade In The Water.”

We honor the courage of those who stood up, swam across that water, and squared up for justice!

Because as the song reminds us, a chair is still a chair, even when it's swung, and no one is sitting there.

Happy Chairteenth!
