For Jolene Lopez, helping students understand their path forward is personal.

The Copperas Cove resident joined Central Texas College in 2025 as an office assistant for the Human Services program. Today, she helps students navigate their degree plans, understand their academic options and feel more confident about what comes next.

Her favorite moment? Seeing a student’s face light up when they finally understand their educational goal.

Read Jolene’s story in the Copperas Cove Herald and discover how CTC has played a meaningful role in her journey. https://kdhnews.com/copperas_cove_herald/helping-students-find-their-way-at-ctc/article_6ee69867-4f0a-45de-8ea6-8e966add9d88.html

What will you learn today?

In Professor Dr. Lisa Volle’s Spanish class, CTC students are taking their learning beyond vocabulary and grammar and putting their language skills to practical use.

Students recently worked in small groups to practice Spanish through everyday situations, including sharing their class schedules, discussing shopping lists and more.

CTC’s Spanish courses develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills while helping students learn about the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. Spanish language skills can also provide a valuable foundation for careers in fields such as education, social work, law enforcement, public relations, hospitality, advertising and more.

From Army service to community service, former U.S. Army Psychological Operations soldiers Russell Kirkwood and Nathan Weeks have embarked on a new mission together.

The longtime teammates recently graduated from the Central Texas College Police Academy and now serve side by side with the Brown County WID No. 1 Lake Patrol. Their story is a powerful example of how the bonds forged in military service can lead to new opportunities to protect and serve communities at home.
