I surprised the girls I met at the Ludzi Girls Secondary School in Malawi with copies of Becoming – including a journal for them to jot down their thoughts. These are the photos they sent back. Their responses are just so adorable, and I knew I had to share them with all of you!

🚍SCHOOL BUS SAFETY🚍

With the new school year starting on August 15th in Killeen, we want to remind motorists about school bus safety.

When you see a school bus turn on its flashing amber lights, that means it is about to stop, and you should too. It is the LAW. When the stop sign and red flashing lights are activated, all traffic traveling the same direction as the bus from the rear, as well as all traffic going the opposite direction from the front of the bus must stop, unless the roadway you are traveling on is separated from the bus by a physical barrier such as a grass or concrete median or wall, then you should proceed with caution.

When driving near a school bus stop, remember children are present and drivers should be attentive, free of distractions and stop when the lights come on…it is not just the law, IT IS A CHILD’S LIFE.

📢📢📢 Academic Calendar: Due to weather-related closures in February, all Killeen ISD students will now attend school on Monday, March 21, 2022; this was previously a staff workday/student holiday.

The revised calendar maintains Good Friday, April 15, 2022, as a student/staff holiday and at this time will not be utilized as a bad weather make-up day.

As a reminder, this Friday, March 11, 2022, students will be released from school 90 minutes early (rather than two hours) as part of the missed instruction associated with the freeze earlier last month. Together, we will make an awesome team!

Children often need to be taught how to follow rules. It isn’t enough to simply say “don’t do that.” Ask your child:

💬“What can you do to help meet our rules and expectations?”

Remember, it doesn’t matter if they think the expectations are fair or not. They simply need to take responsibility for meeting them. Remind your child:

💬“It’s your responsibility to control your temper. Just because your brother is bothering you does not mean you can push him. If your brother is annoying you, and you’re tempted to call him names, what can you do instead?”

You might have your child write down a list of the things they can do to help themselves follow the rules when they are tempted to break them.
