Western Saddles

The soles are on, stitched, pegged, and drying!

Sooo…I completed the the installation of the sole welts and the steel shanks as can be seen in the pictures. The shank covers were pegged and will be sanded and shaped when they are dry. Afterwords the soles will be installed.

Been busy over the last several workdays on the custom boots. The first two pictures shows them drying after I installed the tops on the boot lasts. The last two pictures shows the toe boxes being installed and then the final cementing of the vamp.

The boots are now ready for the bottom work, which includes the sole welt, shank support, soles, and heels....

I should have them completed by the end of this week.

Work continued on this afternoon on the custom boots. The tops are complete. the panels have been stitched together, and the pull loops have been installed. The next step is to turn the boot tops right side out and install them onto the boot lasts.....

The boot repair is complete take a look at the pictures....and I have done more work on the custom boots...See that picture as well.

Hey all, been a bit busy with saddle repairs...one of which fell of the drawdown stand and broke my right big toe!! That was a big time ouch!! Take a look at the photos....

I'll soon be posting some picture of a pair of boots that are in for repair as well as a custom pair that are in the process of being built...

Boots are finished! Customer was ecstatic!

Here are the rawhide toe boxes installed. I have to let them completely dry before I can cement the vamps back down and in place. By the way...those are tacks in the rawhide. These are used when installing, to keep the rawhide in place when you stretch and tack the rawhide on the bottom of the boot. Once the rawhide has dried, these will be removed.

Here is the other set of boots for which I was awaiting the lasts. These are lasted and are now drying. I'll be installing a rawhide toe box to provide a strong toe as the customer will be working around horses, as well as riding them. I have to wait for the boots to be completely dry before I can peel the toe leather back to install the toe box.
