While the rest of us were enjoying summer, our amazing FFES custodial staff was hard at work making sure our school was clean, polished, and ready to welcome our Flyers back. Behind every shiny floor, clean classroom, and fresh hallway is a team that works tirelessly behind the scenes.

Every school has custodians, but First Flight just happens to have the BEST. 💙 We are so thankful for all the hard work, long hours, and care you’ve put into our school this summer—and all year long.

And because you’ve cleaned up enough after us already, we made you this video instead of another mess. 😂

🎨✨ Our talented Art Teacher, Gabe Griggs, has artwork on display! ✨🎨

We are so excited to share that Mrs. Griggs is featured in Beyond the Lesson Plan, an exhibition showcasing the personal artwork of talented Dare County Schools art teachers! 👩‍🎨👨‍🎨

The exhibition is on display at Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery in Nags Head, and the show has been extended through the end of September!

We love seeing our teachers share their talents and passions beyond the classroom, and we are so proud of Mrs. Griggs! 💙✈️

A huge congratulations to Mrs. Whitney Waddington on earning the Lighthouse Award! 🌟

Mrs. Waddington goes far beyond the call of duty for the FFES community every single day. She exemplifies what it means to be purposeful, specific, and targeted in her approach—using individual student data to craft reading lessons that give every child precisely what they need to thrive.

From helping to keep the media center running smoothly to stepping up for traffic and lunch duty, helping out the 2nd-grade team, and the whole FFES family, assisting with the spring musical and chorus, and cheering on our students at Dare County events long after school hours—her "I've got you!" attitude shines in everything she does.

Thank you, Mrs. Waddington, for being such a bright light and a true treasure to our students, staff, and families! 💡👏

Sara Fletcher is truly deserving of being named Dare County Schools Principal of the Year! Through her tireless dedication to her staff and students at First Flight Elementary School, Sara has demonstrated exceptional leadership, creativity, and heart. She is always willing to think outside the box and remains deeply focused on helping every student grow and succeed. Sara embraced new challenges, persevered, and absolutely pulled it off! She consistently supported and encouraged her staff, advocated for her students, and never lost sight of her vision. Her hard work, determination, and unwavering commitment have made a lasting impact on the First Flight Elementary community. We are incredibly proud of all she has accomplished and could not be more excited to see Sara receive the recognition she so truly deserves!
