Good afternoon everyone!
We have received word from the county that the building will be torn down, but no date has been set. So at this time we're ok. But....our current space will be coming down in the near future, hopefully after this year's distribution. Regardless we will still need a new home to continue to serve the roughly 800 kids annually.
Your local chapter began small, years ago and has changed coordinators a couple times. We have grown from collecting a few boxes a year and giving them to social services or churches to distribute into receiving full boxes through 3 counties and running distribution to allow the parents to shop for their kids like a giant toy store (not quite Toys R Us, but getting close).
We have strived to keep up with the challenges, and increased numbers we serve, especially after expanding to cover currituck and then camden counties. I feel we have done so quite well. Unfortunately we have seen a decrease in volunteers to run events, handle the warehouse, and distribution but I'm sure we can still get business done as always. If you have the heart and what it takes to come spend time with us, please reach out.
On another note, I moved nearly 90 minutes away from the area a couple years ago, but still do everything possible to keep the chapter running. After being coordinator now for my 7th year and prior assistant coordinator under Larry the time will be coming for me to step away and have someone else take over. I am seeking a motivated person to come in, shadow me for the season, learn the ropes and go to coordinator training next year or the following, allowing me to become a coordinator closer to home. I truly love the area we serve and all of the support we get, but in the end the logistics to continue are becoming more difficult by the year.
Thank you
Tony
