They could have done better on the animation for the violin playing, but I’m still glad a film like this is being made.

The film is set in Singapore and Malaya over the course of the 20th century and follows the lives of two childhood friends whose lives are shaped and separated by war. Watch the trailer at the link in the comments.

KHS students working on All State Etudes: Ensemble Block is up and running for this year!

Ensemble Block launched its instructional videos and lessons on the 2026-2027 TMEA All-State Orchestra etudes. It is free to create an account: https://ensembleblock.com/portal/tmea

In addition to the videos of the etudes, students can speed up or slow down the videos to practice alongside the recorder. Sections can be looped for repetition. Each recorder also offers a mini-lesson on the etude to help students with the pedagogy required in each etude.

It’s a great day for Kilgore High School at Texas State Solo & Ensemble! Eight students performed solos for a judge and ALL OF THEM medaled! 7 gold medals and 1 silver!

Congratulations to these hard-working students, and a special thank you to David Berryhill for accompanying them.

Also many thanks are due to Richard Leppert for working with them and Zach Brooks for working with the cellos.

Their private teachers also deserve accolades: Lisa Lininger—cello and Sarah Fruge—piano..

Terrific job students, teachers, and musicians!
