Dear friends and HDS family,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news with you of the passing of our dear Rabbi Irving Goodman.

Rabbi Goodman, born June 19th 1930, lived such a full and accomplished life dedicated to helping others and building the beautiful Hebrew Day School that we all love.

He has been the strongest pillar of our community since he moved to Woodridge in 1955. Starting as a teacher and moving on to principal, then dean, Rabbi Goodman is the reason the school still stands today. He is responsible for the education, guidance, and success of hundreds of students.

Rabbi Goodman cared so deeply for every one of his students and staff. He never retired from dedicating his time to supporting his school. He was still working hard to raise money up until the last week before his passing.

He truly embodied his name. Rabbi Goodman was a GOOD MAN. He really was the best of us. We should all strive to be as good as he was and to live our lives for the betterment of others.

Rabbi Goodman, our teacher, our guide, our friend, we miss you greatly. Thank you for all you have done for us.

The Levaya will take place tomorrow at 1pm, Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at the Woodridge Shul 14 Maurice Rose St. Woodridge NY. Kevurah will be in Eretz Yisrael.

I would like to thank our technology teacher together with some of the students who created a new HDS oil Menorah that we will use. This Menorah was printed with our 3D printer!

Besides our best efforts and adherence to all mandates and procedures, our school has had a teacher test positive for COVID-19. We have taken immediate action to close the school.

We have contacted the Department of Health and are following their guidelines to ensure that we are taking every precaution to keep our students and staff safe. We will notify every individual who is a primary contact of the person infected with COVID-19 and ask them and their children to remain in quarantine for the next 14 days, as well as any individuals living in that household.

Our school is closed for cleaning and disinfecting and we will give you further instructions as they become available.

Please let’s be sure to remain calm and we thank you for your continued support and patience while we navigate this new “normal”.
