GSSV will be hosting a Senior College Planning Night to discuss college selection, college applications, FAFSA guidelines, and more for our seniors and their parents. The gym will also be open for parents to see the hard work their students put into our Outreach event.

Congratulations to Randophh-Henry High School and GSSV senior Caleb Barton for being selected as Virginia Farm Bureau of Charlotte Court House Player of the Week.

Virginia Farm Bureau of Charlotte Court House is partnering with the Randolph-Henry High School football team to recognize a Player of the Week throughout the football season. Each week, the RHHS coaching staff will select one outstanding student-athlete for this honor. The selected player will also receive a football donated by Virginia Farm Bureau.

Congratulations to this week’s Player of the Week, Caleb Barton!

Caleb recorded 3 solo tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 fumble recovery that resulted in 20 yards of positive yardage, and 3 hurried pass attempts.

The GSSV Spirit Wear Store is now open until September 30. This is a fully online store offering short- and long-sleeve T-shirts and crew and hooded sweatshirts. We also have bookbags and beanie hats available. A small portion of proceeds from apparel sales will be returned to GSSV to help offset the costs of our field trips. This will only be open in September but will reopen in February. Mrs. Swain will get all the orders (to save on shipping costs for you) and deliver to the school once the orders have been fufilled.

🎉 Congratulations to Alice Yang, a Prince Edward and GSSV senior, for being recognized at the September Prince Edward School Board Meeting! She was recognized for her participation in the 2026 Summer Residential Governor’s School for Mathematics, Science, and Technology at the University of Lynchburg. Alice is pictured below speaking to the School Board and with Prince Edward County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Chip Jones.

Our senior mentors spent some time with their junior mentees this week as part of our mentor program, providing an extra layer of support for our new students. Each month, we will have “Mentor Monday,” where our mentors and mentees will have designated time to discuss specific topics that will help our juniors transition from a high school setting to a college setting.

Our first Mentor Monday focused on understanding the syllabus and its purpose. Our mentors helped their mentees dissect a syllabus of their choosing. They also had the opportunity to discuss any other questions that had come up during the first four weeks.

We’re excited for the changes in this program and to see our mentors continue to support and encourage their mentees throughout the year!

In Biology 101, Alberta seniors engaged in a comparative dissection of a frog and dogfish shark to investigate structural and functional similarities and differences between amphibians and cartilaginous fish. They also discussed how humans are similar and different. This activity highlighted evolutionary adaptations, organ systems, and the value of a comparative anatomy in understanding biological diversity.
