Keyser AFS Chapter

Keyser AFS Chapter American Field Service (AFS) is an intercultural program. The Keyser AFS Chapter was started in 1965.

Since then, there has been at least one foreign exchange student at Keyser High School every year. AFS provides intercultural learning experiences that bring global cultures together by helping people connect, transforming the lives of thousands of students, families, and individuals every year. With exchange programs in more than 50 countries and a large network of volunteers, educators, and staf

Consider hosting Havin,16, from Turkey. Havin has both Turkish and Kurdish influences in her life and is excited to share her cultures and improve her English in the USA. She is friendly, open minded, optimistic, persistent, and highly motivated. Family is important to her as are her friends. She sings with a band and plays violin. In school she likes music, math, drama, geography, and literature and works hard for her grades. During the summer she enjoys swimming at the beach and doing photography. Becoming a doctor is her career goal, She's looking forward to meeting her new host family!

Meet 17 year old, Erica, from Sweden:

Erica is a passionate and enthusiastic young woman who is excited to fulfill her dream of coming to the U.S. She traveled once to the U.S. and has known ever since that she wanted to return as an exchange student. She enjoys spending time with her family and used to babysit her sister when she was younger. One of her biggest passions is theater and music. She would love the opportunity to participate in high school theater in the U.S. When she's older she would like to pursue acting. She has already worked as an extra in her native Sweden! Erica can't wait to meet her host family in the U.S.

AFS is actively looking for host families in the Allegheny Highlands area willing to open their hearts and homes to an international exchange student for the 2017-2018 school year.

There is no “typical” AFS Host Family. Families can have small or teenage children at home, be empty nesters, or couples with no children. Single adults, LGBT couples and single parents are also encouraged to apply!

Host families provide a bed and meals, share their daily lives with students, and help guide and support students as if they were their own children. AFS spends time finding a student to match the interests of each host family - whether it’s the arts, academics, sports, scouts or other interests. Families and their hosted students also receive ongoing support from AFS staff and a team of experienced, local volunteers.

Keyser High school will have three AFS students this school year!
Mary (Maria) from Argentina will be with the Wilson Family and Darko from Chile with the Rohrbaugh Family. They will be arriving this weekend. Bernardo from Portugal will be with the Ack Family. He arrives in Keyser in early September.
