Depending on the size of the sharks we catch, we’re working above or at sea level. When it comes to release, our team will often dive in to check animal condition! We’re doing shark research on every level. 🦈🧡

Come with us as we dive to download and clean our acoustic receivers! Every few months our team sets out to service our acoustic array that listens for sharks that have an internal acoustic tag. Thanks to Int. SeaKeepers Society and Rock The Ocean 🌊 for helping to fund this crucial work in shark conservation.

🦈 : Meet Tiger “G”!

Tiger “G” is a 336 cm (~11 ft) female tiger shark satellite tagged on May 1, 2026, near Cape Florida Channel in Miami. Since then, her tag has documented an incredible journey along Florida’s Atlantic coast and into the northern Bahamas.
She pinged again this week near Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island in northeast Florida!

So far, her satellite tag has recorded more than 3,701 km (~2,300 miles) of movement.

Satellite telemetry helps us understand where sharks travel, how they use different habitats, and how connected coastal and offshore areas can be across large spatial scales.

Follow along for more updates from the University of Miami Shark Research & Conservation Program!

Happy !

This week’s tagged shark is Olivia Eve, a 236-cm female tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) tagged in Miami on January 2, 2026. Since tagging, she has traveled approximately 824 miles while continuing to use waters around South Florida. Olivia was the first tiger shark tagged as part of our new project aimed at understanding the movements of subadult and juvenile tiger sharks in South Florida.

This Shark Week, make waves for shark conservation by symbolically adopting a shark through the University of Miami Shark Research and Conservation Program! 🌊🦈

Every adoption supports shark research, conservation, and marine science education in South Florida.

Name-a-Shark — $60
Be randomly paired with a tagged shark and choose its name. You’ll receive an adoption package that includes an SRC sticker, a personalized adoption certificate, a species photo, and shark facts.

Choose-a-Shark — $120
Choose your preferred shark species and name your adopted shark. You’ll also receive an adoption package.

Tag-a-Shark — $600
Help fund an acoustic tag and receive biannual updates when your shark is detected and an adoption package.

Sat-Tag-a-Shark — $3,000
Help fund a satellite tag and track your shark’s movements online for approximately one year. You’ll also receive a custom shark profile on our website, exclusive SRC research updates, and an adoption package.

General donations of any amount are also welcome and help support fieldwork, tracking technology, research equipment, student training, and marine science education.

Donate through the link in our bio. Questions? Email [email protected].
