For the 27th year in a row, the Kettering City School District has been presented with the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO). The district earned the Certificate of Excellence (COE) for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended 2021.

"The COE's mission is to promote and recognize excellence in financial reporting," said David Lewis, executive director of ASBO International. "The Annual Comprehensive Financial Report informs stakeholders about the financial and economic state of the district, making it an important communications tool for building trust and engaging the school community."

By participating in the COE program, school districts demonstrate their commitment to financial transparency. Applicants submit their Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for review by a team of financial professionals who provide feedback to improve future documents. If the ACFR meets the requirements of the program, it may receive the Certificate of Excellence.

Congratulations to Todd Silverthorn!

When Todd Silverthorn was in college, he worked as a bus driver, with every intention of doing something like owning his own grocery store when he got out of school. Luckily for the Kettering Schools, Todd enjoyed bus driving so much that what had started as a part-time job grew into a full-time career.

Todd serves as the supervisor of Transportation Services for the Kettering Schools, and the district is extremely proud to announce that he is the recipient of the 2021 William Rice Award of Excellence from the Ohio Association for Pupil Transportation (OAPT.)

Todd was presented with the award on June 16, at OAPT's state conference in Dublin. The award is presented annually to the Transportation Supervisor of the Year and recognizes “outstanding leadership and professional conduct in the school transportation field, both in the district they represent, as well as in the state of Ohio.”

Congratulations, Todd, on this well-deserved recognition!
