DATE CHANGE: Barnes Building Open House

Please note that the Barnes Building Open House originally scheduled for August 26 has been rescheduled.

📅 New Date: Thursday, September 10
🕒 3–5 p.m.

The open house will give community members an opportunity to learn more about the plans for the revitalization of the Barnes Building and the shared vision for its future.

The project is focused on enriching the Kettering community, preserving history and enhancing economic development, with zero school funds and no additional city taxes being used for the project.

For now, please help us spread the word about the new September 10 date. We’ll share more details about the open house as we get closer!

Show your Firebird pride and help Fairmont raise money for some incredible causes through this year’s Spirit Chain! Spirit Chain is the annual competition between Kettering and Centerville Schools to see who can raise the most money for charity.

This year’s proceeds will benefit the Kettering Backpack, Breast Wishes Foundation, SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center and Lesotho Nutrition Initiative.

Please join us in congratulating Scott Beirise, automotive instructor with the Kettering Fairmont Career Tech Center, for being named Sinclair Community College’s Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium Instructor of the Year!

Beirise was selected for this honor from among instructors at the Tech Prep Consortium’s 41 high schools and eight career tech centers.

Noted Karyn Denslow, principal of Kettering Fairmont High School, “I am so thrilled that Sinclair also sees Scott as the passionate and amazing teacher we get to see every day. He accomplishes so much with our students and I couldn't be more proud that Fairmont gets to call Scott one of our own! Congratulations!”

This well-deserved award recognizes Beirise’s outstanding dedication to career-technical education and his commitment to preparing students for success in both college and career pathways.
Beirise brings innovative instruction methods and a keen knowledge of all aspects of the automotive field to his classroom teaching every single day! Likewise, Beirise’s unmatched connections across the regional automotive industry directly create high-quality internship opportunities for all of his Fairmont CTC students.

Today, at approximately 11:39am, a vague and threatening call came into the office at Beavertown Elementary. Staff took immediate action, contacting the Kettering Police Department and moving the school into a Shelter-In-Place safety protocol.

The Shelter-In-Place at Beavertown Elementary was lifted at approximately 12:00 p.m. The Kettering Police Department has determined that it is safe to resume all normal activities.

Beavertown entered a Shelter-in-Place out of an abundance of caution after a vague phone call was received in the main office. The Kettering Police Department determined the call was not credible and checked both the inner and outer perimeters of the building as an extra precaution.

Our staff and students did an incredible job remaining calm during this brief disruption. We want to thank our entire school community for their patience and cooperation, which allowed law enforcement to assess the situation quickly and effectively.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority at all times. Thank you once again for your ongoing support, trust, and commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment for our entire school family.
