KNEPC
KNEPC is the parent committee that manages the funds from the formulated Title Vl grant in Ketchikan
Operating as usual
Our IEA preschools are the last non SPED preschools left within KGBSD. KNEPC will continue to encourage the district to stay to their word of supporting fifty percent of both IEA preschools at Fawn Mountain and Pioneer (under Houghtaling).
Both preschools were already full with wait lists before the district conducted screenings through child find for the 2024-25 school year.
Please join us at tomorrow's meeting to voice your concerns!
The KGBSD School Board during the meeting on May 22nd made a motion regarding KGBSD Preschools, the original motion was amended to add back 2 Preschool Educators (1 Sped and 1 IEA). Sadly this motion did not pass with the members voting as follows,
President voted No (unsure of budgetary impact)
Bradford - NO
Anderson - NO
Sanderson - NO
O'Bryan - YES
Tatsudas - YES
Hautte - NO
Guthrie - YES
What does this mean for KNEPC?
KNEPC Title Vl formulated grant funds the School District's Cultural Coordinator and fifty percent of two Preschools, Fawn Mountain and the Pioneer Preschool.
We encourage community members to reach out to the School Board before the next meeting on June 3rd at 12pm.
KNEPC thanks the families that spoke during our Emergency Special Meeting last night and we will continue to strive for transparency with the district in regards to our grant!
An edit: The KGBSD School Board has decided not to meet Monday at 12pm and will wait until the next regularly scheduled meeting on June 12

We give our special thanks to Frank Johnson for his many hours of conversation. He provided us with an abundance of rich materials from which to select our topics.
The Indian Education Parent Committee and iniators of the magazine project have our appreciation for the support they have provided."

From what's on our tables to what we were taught in school, I think we can all agree there are many misconceptions surrounding Thanksgiving. Common misconceptions surrounding this national holiday may seem harmless but misconceptions have the power to perpetuate a continued cycle of oppression against people or cultures. How we understand history and how we've been taught molds our perception of the world in which we currently live and to whom we share that world with. Let's be better and push past those commonly taught misconceptions and teach more accurate history. Here's a great short video that you can share with your class, friends, colleagues or family. However you celebrate this holiday we hope you find joy within your day!

KNEPC is the parent committee that manages the funds from the formulated Title Vl grant, through the Federal Office of Indian Education.
In the past the Title Vl grant primarily funded the two native education preschools currently located at Fawn Mountain and the Pioneer Home.
KNEPC was formed in 2019 and funds are now supporting the District Cultural Coordinator position it created and the two preschools.
