The Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin has declared October 16, 2026 as Menominee Language and Culture Day. This is our community's opportunity to celebrate all of the amazing language work that is taking place throughout the reservation.

On the afternoon of October 16, departments and local non-profits will be encouraged to host a language event at their facility from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Ideas include Menominee bingo, scavenger hunts, vocabulary posters, card games, art activities, crafting activities, recipe samples, and other ways you are promoting Menominee language and culture.

As part of a collaborative effort, the Menominee Language and Culture Commission, MenominiyoU, and College of Menominee Nation's Sustainable Development Institute are offering a total of ten (10) $1,000 language support funds to Tribal entities and local 501c3's that want to host an event and need a little extra help to do so.

These funds are intended to support language activities at your site on the afternoon of October 16, 2026. Funds are available on a first-come basis, so be sure to complete this form in its entirety as soon as you can!

Our first announced keynote speaker is Dr. Benny Rieth, an award-winning higher education leader, researcher, author, and nationally recognized speaker who is passionate about one thing: helping students and employees discover where they belong and empowering them to become the best version of themselves.

With more than a decade of experience in student affairs, enrollment, campus culture, employee development, campus life, orientation, and student success, Dr. Benny has inspired thousands of students and educators across the country to create communities where everyone feels seen, valued, and connected. His engaging storytelling, humor, and authentic approach challenge audiences to think differently about leadership, resilience, and the impact they can have on those around them.

A proud Indigenous scholar and advocate, Dr. Benny's work has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Young Professional of the Year Award, the Outstanding Contribution to Indigenous Higher Education Research Award, and the Student Champion Award. Whether speaking on a national conference stage or connecting with students and employees in a packed auditorium, Dr. Benny leaves audiences energized, inspired, and ready to make a difference.

In just two weeks, College of Menominee Nation will be hosting the Seven Generations Inter-Tribal Leadership Summit, in collaboration with Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University (LCOOU) and the Universities of Wisconsin.

For some students, CMN is the clear choice to further their education. For recent high school graduates Tamia and Gracie, they made that choice and are taking their next step with us, out on campus learning and working past our "standard" business hours. We're happy to have them!

"Monuments help us remember. They educate visitors about the past, acknowledging that the society we’re all a part of is built upon the foundation of those who preceded us.

On Sept. 13, the Greater Escarpment Organization of Door County will host “a soft opening and dedication of the first four educational interpretive panels at Escarpment Park in Northern Door.” Among the panels being honored is one titled 'Omāēqnomenēw-ahkīheh: In the Land of the Menominee.'"

CMN's Dr. Ryan Winn returns to the Shawano Leader to speak on the Escarpment Park educational interpretive panels, scheduled for a soft opening this Sunday, September 13th.
