Acceptance and welcoming is what every kid deserves. This month is a time to celebrate and affirm the rights, equality, and culture of LGBTQ+ people.

We are now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 WIEA Scholarship!

In keeping with its continued commitment to higher education, the Wisconsin Indian Education Association is pleased to provide scholarship assistance to American Indian students attending institutions of higher education. This scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship, not based on financial need. Applicants must be Wisconsin residents

Janice Rice, emerita senior academic librarian at College Library, was recognized on April 24 with a 2026 Distinguished Achievement Award from the UW-Madison School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences. This award acknowledged Rice's long career with UW–Madison Libraries and her significant impact on expanding information access for Indigenous communities.

Today, on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) Awareness Day, we honor the lives of Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit people, and all relatives who have been taken too soon.

This day is not only about awareness. It is about truth, accountability, and the ongoing impact this crisis has on our families, our students, and our Tribal Nations and Native communities.

In education spaces, we see the ripple effects. Grief that enters classrooms. Students carrying loss that is too often unseen. Communities navigating trauma while continuing to show up for the next generation.

At NIEA, we stand with families and communities calling for justice, visibility, and change. We remain committed to this work through education, advocacy, and by uplifting Native voices and stories.

We remember. We honor. We continue forward with purpose.
